About the Client:
We're seeking compassionate caregivers for a woman in her senior years residing in an assisted living facility in Stouffville. She uses a wheelchair for mobility and experiences cognitive challenges including memory difficulties and limited language ability due to a transient stroke. She was previously very active—an avid golfer and tennis player—and still enjoys engaging in activities and social events. She responds well to bubbly, talkative personalities and appreciates companionship that helps her feel comfortable and safe. Due to past negative experiences with certain caregivers, consistency and a gentle, patient approach are essential to building trust.
Responsibilities:
- Provide feeding assistance during lunch (11:15 AM - 1:15 PM) and dinner (4:15 PM - 6:15 PM)
- Assist with wheelchair transfers using proper two-person transfer techniques when facility staff are available
- Accompany her to activities, concerts, and social events within the building
- Provide companionship and conversation to reduce isolation and frustration
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Monitor toileting needs and request facility assistance when required
- Potentially assist with bathing and personal care as comfort and trust develop
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with wheelchair assistance and safe transfer techniques
- Memory care experience with dementia or cognitive decline
- Calm, patient demeanor with ability to manage frustration and occasional aggression
- Bubbly, engaging personality who enjoys conversation and building relationships
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Reliability and consistency—this role requires the same caregiver for each shift
- Takes initiative and respects the client's independence while ensuring safety
- English-speaking
Schedule:
Seven days per week with two daily shifts:
- Morning shift: 11:15 AM - 1:15 PM (2 hours)
- Evening shift: 4:15 PM - 6:15 PM (2 hours)
This will require a team of caregivers with consistent assignment to specific shifts. The family hopes to start as soon as possible, with a gradual onboarding process including virtual meet-and-greets before in-person trial shifts.
