Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Utility Locator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for locating and marking underground utility infrastructure, including telecommunications, fiber optic, electrical, gas, water, and sewer lines, to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in various outdoor environments.
Duties
- Locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment, maps, and utility records.
- Identify and accurately mark telecommunications, fiber optic, electrical, gas, water, and sewer infrastructure.
- Read and interpret utility maps, engineering drawings, and site plans.
- Complete locate requests within required timelines and maintain accurate documentation.
- Communicate with contractors, property owners, and utility representatives regarding locate activities.
- Perform field investigations to verify utility locations and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, company procedures, and industry standards.
- Maintain and inspect locating equipment and company vehicles.
- Report damages, hazards, and safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications
- Previous utility locating experience is preferred; training may be provided for motivated candidates.
- Knowledge of underground utility infrastructure and construction practices is an asset.
- Ability to read maps, drawings, and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and walk long distances on uneven terrain.
