We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our kitchen team. This role is perfect for someone who is eager to learn or already has experience in South Indian cuisine, and who can assist in both food preparation and general kitchen duties. The ideal candidate will help maintain a smooth, efficient, and clean kitchen operation.
Key Responsibilities (Cook)
· Prepare and cook authentic South Indian dishes, including but not limited to: dosas, idlis, vadas, uttapams, sambar, rasam, biryanis, and various regional curries and chutneys.
· Ensure proper fermentation of batters, spice blending, and adherence to traditional cooking methods.
· Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free).
· Plan daily menu items, estimate food requirements, and maintain inventory of spices and other ingredients.
· Monitor food quality, taste, freshness, and presentation to meet restaurant standards.
· Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as dosa tawa, grinders, steamers, and commercial cooking appliances.
Key Responsibilities (Helper)
· Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping vegetables, and other ingredients.
· Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils in compliance with Canadian food safety regulations.
· Wash dishes (by hand or machine), dispose of waste, and sanitize work surfaces.
· Receive, unpack, and store food supplies properly in refrigerators, freezers, and cupboards.
· Provide support to cooks during busy periods with simple tasks and maintain a clean workspace.
· Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
· Proven experience in a restaurant or commercial kitchen setting is preferred.
· Prior experience preparing South Indian or Kerala cuisine is highly valued.
· Strong knowledge of food handling procedures and safety regulations.
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and stand for extended periods.
· Excellent teamwork, communication skills, and a strong attention to detail.
· Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Hindi, Punjabi, or Malayalam is considered an asset.
