Boreal Land Services Ltd. is a full-service land, regulatory & reclamation consulting company based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. We are currently seeking an individual to fill a position as an Intermediate Environment & Regulatory Specialist.
In this position, you will be given meaningful, productive, and challenging assignments related to land, environmental, and regulatory consulting. The prime candidate will have wide-ranging experience in fields such as: land use planning, land administration, wetland ecology, environmental assessments and monitoring, GIS mapping, and reclamation assessments. This position will be based in our Sherwood Park office with an estimated 75% office / 25% field work allocation.
Duties
· Directly interact with clients and support work on land, environmental and reclamation projects.
· Conduct wetland assessments and delineation to support WAIF & WAIR’s.
· Conduct wildlife sweeps.
· Collect, interpret, and report biophysical field data in support of regulatory and reclamation applications.
· Assist in completion of Public Lands Act disposition, Water Act, and reclamation certificate applications.
· Plan, coordinate, and conduct Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA).
· Assist in the acquisition of third-party consents and submit notifications to various stakeholders and interested parties when needed.
· Conduct First Nations and Metis consultation in accordance with the Alberta Aboriginal Consultation Office’s (ACO) guidelines.
· Collaborate with team members including biologists, foresters, agrologists, land administrators, planners, and environmental scientists on complex projects.
Qualifications
· 3-5 + years of experience conducting environmental site assessments, wetland assessments, surface land acquisition, reclamation assessments in the oil / gas, forestry, utilities, renewables, or mining industries.
· Professional designation, (P.Biol, P.Ag, RT. Ag., RPF, RPFT) would be preferred.
· Knowledge of provincial legislation and guidelines, as they pertain to the Alberta Water Act, Public Lands Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Alberta Wetland Policy & Directives, ABWRET, Reclamation Criteria for Wellsites and Associated Facilities.
· Knowledge of the Alberta Energy Regulator’s (AER) Directive 56’s participant involvement requirements and protocols would be an asset.
· Experience in utilizing the Record of Observation (RoO) Tool and filing Reclamation Certificate Applications.
· Ability to assess wetlands including wetland delineation and prescribe mitigation strategies as required.
· Proficient in the writing of technical reports, data entry, data compilation and the management of databases.
· Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and organizational skills, preferably with experience as a consultant.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
· Proficiency with GIS (QGIS or ESRI-Arc) would be an asset.
· Experience with AER’s OneStop Tool would be considered an asset.
Pre-Employment Requirements
· You have a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
· Have experience utilizing ATV’s / ARGO’s for work.
· Available to work overtime or out of town to meet project deadlines on short notice.
· You possess a strong interest in and capacity for field work, are comfortable working in remote locations, can physically walk-through difficult terrain and can fly in helicopters for extended periods of time.
