WORK ILLUSTRATION:
Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing & Public Affairs, the Director, Marketing, Communications & Brand provides strategic leadership for Toronto Hydro’s marketing, corporate communications, media relations, and brand management functions. The role is responsible for developing and executing integrated communications and marketing strategies that advance the organization’s reputation, strengthen stakeholder engagement and support corporate priorities.
As the steward of the corporate brand, this role ensures a consistent and compelling brand experience across all internal and external communications channels, marketing initiatives and customer touchpoints. The Director provides trusted strategic counsel to senior leadership, leads reputation and issues management initiatives, and oversees the development of impactful communications, marketing campaigns, and employee engagement programs. This role also serves as the organization's Public Information Officer within the Incident Command Structure providing strategic leadership for crisis and emergency communications during incidents and emergency events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide marketing, communications, and brand strategies that support organizational priorities, strengthen reputation, and enhance stakeholder engagement.
- Lead the planning and delivery of integrated marketing and communications campaigns across digital, social media, advertising, web, print, events, customer communications, and other channels.
- Serve as the steward of Toronto Hydro's brand identity, ensuring consistency in messaging, visual standards, and customer experience across all communications and touchpoints.
- Direct internal communications programs that align employees with organizational priorities, culture, business transformation initiatives, and strategic objectives.
- Provide strategic communications counsel and executive communications support to senior leaders, including briefing materials, speeches, presentations, key messages, and stakeholder communications.
- Lead proactive media relations and public affairs activities that enhance organizational visibility, credibility, and stakeholder trust.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of reputational, communications, and brand risks, and lead response strategies for emerging issues and high-profile events.
- Act as the Public Information Officer during emergencies, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated communications with employees, customers, media, and stakeholders.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage departmental budgets, external agencies, consultants, and service providers to ensure effective and efficient delivery of communications and marketing initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in strategic marketing, communications, brand management, public affairs, or media relations.
- Minimum five (5 ) years of leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams; senior leadership experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing integrated, multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns.
- Strong expertise in leading enterprise-wide communications strategies, reputation management, media relations, and issues management initiatives, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive environments
- Strong knowledge of marketing, communications, brand management, stakeholder engagement, and digital communications best practices.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, project management, and execution skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Outstanding writing, editing, presentation, and storytelling skills, with experience developing content for executive, employee, customer, media, and public audiences.
- Strong political acuity, judgment, and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risks, manage sensitive issues, and develop effective communication strategies.
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and influence senior leaders, internal partners, media, stakeholders, and community representatives.
- Creative, innovative, and customer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving and organizational capabilities.
- Experience leveraging audience insights, data, analytics, and market intelligence to inform communications, marketing, and brand strategies.

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
