The Assistant Director of Sales & Catering will support the Director of Sales & Catering in the overall management and success of the Sales & Catering Department for Fantasyland Hotel and West Edmonton Mall Inn. This position is responsible for assisting with departmental leadership, sales strategy execution, account development, revenue generation, forecasting, and team support.
In addition, this role holds direct responsibility for the Corporate and Business Travel market segments, including prospecting, account management, contract negotiations, client retention, and revenue growth. This position reports directly to the Director of Sales & Catering.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Sales & Catering with the day-to-day operations of both the Sales and Catering departments and achievement of departmental goals.
- Support the supervision, coaching, and development of the Sales and Catering Teams.
- Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Sales & Catering.
- Maintain direct ownership of the Corporate and Business Travel market segments.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing corporate accounts while pursuing new business opportunities.
- Conduct sales calls, client meetings, site inspections, networking events, and business development activities.
- Assist in the development and execution of the annual sales and marketing plan.
- Participate in regular sales & catering meetings to review performance and opportunities.
- Ensure all proposals, contracts, letters, and documentation meet hotel standards.
- Follow up on inquiries, prepare proposals, negotiate agreements, and manage client relationships.
- Work closely with all hotel departments to ensure successful execution of groups, meetings, conventions, and events.
- Maintain accurate client, account, and production records.
- Assist with monthly forecasting and Executive Sales Reports.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
- Represent Fantasyland Hotel and West Edmonton Mall Inn professionally at industry events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales & Catering.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of progressive hotel sales experience, with leadership experience preferred.
- Experience managing Corporate and/or Business Travel accounts within a hotel environment.
- Post-secondary education in Hospitality Management, Business Management, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of hotel sales strategies, account management, and revenue generation.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and hotel sales software.
Terms of employment:
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend flexibility.
- Salaried position commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- May be eligible for participation in the 4-day work week program, subject to operational requirements.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
