About the Opportunity
Galaxy HR is currently recruiting a Laser Operator for a leading custom machinery and manufacturing company in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment in a metal fabrication environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating laser cutting machines to produce high-quality components while ensuring production targets, safety standards, and quality requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines to process sheet metal and fabricated components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and production schedules.
- Load and unload raw materials using proper material handling techniques.
- Verify material type, thickness, and dimensions prior to processing.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as required to maintain quality standards.
- Inspect finished parts using measuring tools to ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and cleaning tasks.
- Troubleshoot minor machine and production issues.
- Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
- Work closely with fabrication, welding, and production teams to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company health, safety, and quality procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–3 years of laser operating experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
- Experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, and gauges.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak, or similar laser cutting equipment.
- Experience working with steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Experience in custom machinery or precision fabrication environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing and fabrication environment.
- Ability to safely handle sheet metal materials and fabricated components.
