EFry Hope and Help provides trauma-informed, inclusive and gender-responsive programs and services to support women and girls at risk or involved in the legal system in building stable lives.
We are recruiting a full-time Housing Support Caseworker for our A Home of Her Own program. Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the successful candidate works as part of a collaborative Housing First team, partnering with community agencies and Vanier Centre for Women staff to support client applications for identification, health benefits, and income supports. The role actively builds strong relationships with community resources, landlords, service providers, and EFry’s bed-based and housing programs to help clients secure and sustain long-term housing, or interim measures as needed between doing so. Flexible work schedule is required, with some outside traditional business hours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct assessment using the SPDAT, creates comprehensive service plans and support applications for ID, health benefits, income support or employment and long term housing or alternate transitional housing measures till secured.
- Provide outreach, case management, information and advocacy, and ongoing support, through individualized supports and client centred case management to address needs.
- Support clients with management of day to day activities, and linkages with community resources and supports to address their ongoing needs and level of deep material deprivation.
- Maintains detailed records of service plans, activities, and community referrals and connections. Provides service navigation and advocacy as needed to facilitate service.
- Facilitate client introductions for shared housing opportunities.
- Actively help clients find, view, apply for, and move into housing by removing barriers, advocating with landlords, and providing hands-on support throughout the entire housing search and stabilization process.
- Conduct regular periodic follow-up to document housing stability and impact of service delivery, progress with personal goals, and taking steps as needed to support addressing problems or barriers.
- Maintain ongoing contact with clients’ a minimum of one year.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in a related human or social services field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
- Previous experience working with vulnerable women with issues related to homelessness, criminalization, and concurrent disorders.
- Knowledge of Peel-region resources that address the intersecting barriers faced by homeless women.
- Knowledge of Housing First Principles, Residential Tenancies Act, and the Landlord Tenant Board.
- Knowledge of Ontario and federal income assistance benefits and programs.
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Check).
- Standard First Aid / CPR certification.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test in compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Doctors note of fitness to perform the duties of the job.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license, with satisfactory driving record (Preferred).
