Overview
Registered nurses (RNs) will address the demand for screening and health assessments. As you will be working with the Quarantine and Border Health Services (QBHS) program you will be required to provide basic training or instructions to travelers who may have been exposed to a communicable disease, on-site at various international airports across Canada (Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa). RNs must hold a certificate of reliability. Being bilingual (English and French) would be considered an asset. RNs will be provided with a laptop by PHAC.
Responsibilities
- Conduct health screenings and health assessments for international travelers at designated Canadian airports.
- Provide clear instructions, education, and basic training to travelers regarding quarantine measures, symptom monitoring, infection prevention, and follow-up procedures.
- Support public health response activities in accordance with federal communicable disease protocols and guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health documentation using agency-issued electronic systems and laptops.
- Collaborate with airport authorities, border officers, public health officials, and healthcare teams to ensure effective response coordination.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
- Prior hospital experience or acute care background is advantageous
- Knowledge of pain management, medication administration, and medical terminology.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to handle fast-paced clinical settings with professionalism and compassion
- Experience in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or medical offices is beneficial
