Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant to support our legal team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, excellent research abilities, and a keen eye for detail. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing various clerical tasks, supporting legal research, and ensuring accurate document preparation.
Duties
- Proofread and review legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with firm standards
- Conduct legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and other online databases
- Assist with legal drafting, including correspondence, pleadings, and other documentation
- Manage project timelines and coordinate tasks to ensure deadlines are met
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical files using CosmoLe software
- Perform data entry and update case information accurately within case management software
- Support attorneys with interviewing clients and witnesses as needed
- Handle filing of legal documents in accordance with court requirements
- Maintain professional phone etiquette when communicating with clients, vendors, or court personnel
- Perform general clerical duties including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and preparing reports
Skills
- Strong proofreading and editing skills for legal documents
- Proficiency with CosmoLex
- Excellent project management abilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently
- Effective interviewing skills for gathering relevant information
- Prior administrative experience in a legal or professional setting is preferred
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage files, deadlines, and priorities
- Strong research skills to support case preparation and analysis
- Writing skills capable of producing clear, concise legal documents and correspondence
- Legal drafting expertise for various types of legal documents and reports
- Accurate data entry skills ensuring case information is correctly recorded
- Clerical experience including filing, document preparation, and record keeping
- Professional phone etiquette to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
