About the opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated team player who is committed to providing exceptional customer service. In this role, you will coordinate and provide on-site support for a variety of special events. Responsibilities include interacting with customers and members of the public, performing minor building maintenance, and assisting with the renovation and upkeep of landscaped areas. The position involves physical labour, equipment operation, routine inspections, record keeping, and report writing. You may also provide direction and oversight to other employees as required. Due to the nature of the work, the Parks Worker 2 – Special Events position requires flexibility to work outside of traditional business hours to meet operational and client needs. The current shift for this position is Saturday to Wednesday day/afternoon shifts. Summer seasonal positions are subject to annual layoff and recall.
About your background:
You have a minimum of three (3) years of related experience and a strong understanding of horticultural and arboricultural principles as they apply to gardening, landscaping, and park maintenance. Knowledge of CSA Playground Structure Guidelines and certification to operate a 72" mower are required. A Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification is considered an asset. You must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check relevant to the position. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must complete one accredited post-secondary course related to the trade within one year of hire. In carrying out assigned duties and while following established safety procedures, the incumbent may occasionally be exposed to unpleasant waste materials and other biological hazards
