Pay Range: $30-$35 per hour
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day management, administration and reporting of all distribution activities including, but not limited to planning, scheduling, delivery, inventory accuracy, business metrics, and safety related functions. The successful candidate must be a highly motivated and customer-focused individual who will ensure the highest standards of safety, service, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a positive working environment.
- Manage the team by providing clear communication, motivation, coaching, and correcting as necessary.
- Ensure performance plans are set, maintained, and continuously improved.
- Identify and coordinate daily activities and schedules as well as plan staffing levels based on business needs.
- Collaborate across departments to drive optimal productivity.
- Measure and track effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
Other Responsibilities
Safety & Warehouse Operations:
- Ensure adherence to provincial and Company safety policies and perform regular management safety reviews.
- Responsible for yard, equipment, and fleet safety – including cleanliness, maintenance, and inspections.
- Assist in loading and unloading trucks, driving a forklift, and receiving stock (if necessary).
Dispatch & Delivery:
- Responsible for full-cycle delivery management and accuracy.
- Maintain open and clear lines of communication with customers and proactively inform them of any issues.
- Monitor delivery of inbound and outbound material.
Inventory & Purchasing:
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels in the yard, controlling shrinkage and damaged inventory.
- Oversee inventory counting and close-out procedures.
- Understand the financial operations of volume-buying and selling.
Customer Service & Efficiency:
- Oversee customer service and store management and maintain service standards.
- Utilize internal reports, processes, and procedures to help provide superior customer service.
- Regularly perform audits on yard activities and performance and then investigate and resolve issues.
Skills and Qualifications
- A 4 year-degree preferably or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, operations, and/ or transportation teams
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Effective team player and leader with strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
- Experience in and knowledge of the construction industry and building materials is required.
- Administrative skills and advanced knowledge of computer systems and applications.
- High degree of reading, writing, numeracy, and oral communication skills (speak, read, and write in English.
- Demonstrate empathy and understanding when dealing with employee issues.
- A positive can-do attitude is essential.
