We are currently seeking a Litigation Associate to join our growing team. The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Two to five years of litigation experience in Alberta. This could include experience in mediation, arbitration and court appearances.
- Previous experience in complex litigation is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in Family Law, Personal Injury or Estates will also be considered.
- Ability to assist senior counsel on large and complex litigation.
- Excellent drafting and research skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Willingness to creatively solve problems, make decisions and manage deadlines.
- Aptitude to work under pressure with a calm demeanor.
- The capability to work both independently and within a team.
- The ability to present yourself in a professional manner.
- A commitment to continuously grow your career, take on challenges and learn new skills.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Clarify and establish file objectives, including client preferences, firm obligations and mutual expectations.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Complete delegated work from senior counsel and peers.
- Take responsibility for files from beginning to end; creatively solve problems, make decisions and proactively manage deadlines.
- Participate in business development and reputation-enhancing activities.
- Build career skills through work experience, continuing education and professional leadership.
- Communicate proactively, appropriately and professionally with colleagues and clients.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school.
- Member of the Law Society of Alberta in good standing.
- Previous experience in family law, personal injury and/or estate litigation is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
