Work Hours: Monday to Thursday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., when the Centre is operating. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
Compensation: $21.00/hour

Overview:
The Kitchen & Cleaning Assistant provides essential operational support to CICC by maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and organized environment. This role supports the preschool program by ensuring food preparation areas and common spaces meet health and safety standards, allowing educators and therapists to focus on providing high-quality programming for children with diverse developmental and physical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning
- Clean and sanitize key areas in the Centre
- Following Toronto Public Health guidelines of cleaning substance storage and use
- Keeping all cleaning substances out of reach of children
- Comply with WHMIS requirements and safe handling procedures for cleaning products
- Clean and disinfect all food preparation tools, equipment, and surfaces before and after use
- Maintain the cleanliness of food related areas, including refrigerators and microwaves
- Operating and maintaining the cleanliness of the dishwasher
- Wipe down frequent contact surfaces in the foyer of the Centre (doors, counters, etc.)
Food Handling:
- Ensure proper food handling, preparation, and storage in compliance with Toronto Public Health guidelines
- Monitor food supply levels and notify the supervisor when stock is low
- Receive and store food deliveries appropriately.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures, if applicable.
- Follow allergy and cross-contamination prevention procedures
General Responsibilities:
- Notify the supervisor when cleaning or kitchen supplies need to be restocked.
- Follow all CICC policies and procedures.
- Follow all applicable health and safety policies and procedures, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Toronto Public Health requirements, and CICC protocols.
- Immediately report hazards, injuries, equipment malfunctions, accidents, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a medical mask, when required by CICC policy or public health guidance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safe and effective operation of the Centre.
Qualifications:
- Valid Food Handler Certification (required).
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
- Knowledge of WHMIS (or willingness to complete WHMIS training upon hire).
- Ability to lift to 25 lbs. (11 kg)
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to climb and descend stairs safely.
