We are currently hiring a Journeyperson Carpenter to join the team at our Mechanical Evaporation facility in Unity, SK.
Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following
- Safely operate and maintain tools and equipment while conducting inspections and routine trade work
- Build, repair, and maintain wooden structures and concrete surfaces across the plant
- Perform concrete repairs using specialized compounds
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work effectively
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood and other materials with precision
- Construct foundations, install flooring systems, and erect walls and roofs
- Install finishes such as trim, cabinets, and countertops
- Maintain and renovate structures within the industrial facility
- Design, build, and dismantle scaffolding and access structures (e.g., ladders, ramps, platforms)
- Support other trades with safe and reliable access solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues with a proactive, solution-oriented approach
- Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and manufacturer guidelines
- Contribute to general housekeeping and plant upkeep
- Perform additional duties as required to support operations
What should you bring to the role?
- Valid Journeyperson Carpenter/Scaffolder certification in Saskatchewan or Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and follow complex instructions
- Experience with industrial scaffolding and maintenance in an industrial environment
- Familiarity with microsoft office (excel, word)
- Experience with JDE ERP systems (an asset)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- High sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
- Valid Driver’s Licence
