SUMMARY – Wash Bay Technician Full Time
Shift: Friday to Sunday 06:30-19:00
Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Wash Bay Technician role is responsible for all aspects of cleaning and detailing vehicle/trailer interiors and/or exteriors as well as assisting in keeping the shop area and grounds tidy, clean and free of garbage or debris. This role may also assist in general property maintenance and snow removal as assigned.
The Wash Bay Technician is responsible for consulting with customers and other members of the Maintenance & Procurement division to determine required work. This position requires a proactive, effective communicator who can work in a fast-paced transportation environment with shifting priorities and can anticipate future needs or challenges while maintaining the highest safety standards and practices. Providing a high-quality and cost-effective service, keeping safety as priority, while ensuring customer satisfaction will be the ultimate mission of this role.

KEY ACTIVITIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintain a clean and orderly work area and ensure that all safety practices and procedures are being followed at all times, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (steel toed boots, safety vest, protective eye/face gear, gloves, etc.) for the task at hand.

Safely use the appropriate tools for the job such as pressure washer, washing equipment, ozone generators (or other deodorizers), and snow removal apparatuses as applicable.

Wash and detail vehicle/trailer interiors and/or exteriors by hand, brush or other washing equipment.

Clean and dry vehicle windshields, windows, lights, mats and exterior body.

Work with customers and other staffs to handle jobs in priority.

Properly tag clean and dirty units to assist drivers and yard staff in achieving faster turn around times.

Log all work using the appropriate forms for tracking and billing purposes.

Assist in keeping the shop area and yard clean, tidy and free of garbage or debris. This may include emptying trash cans, cleaning of oil and grease receptacles, cleaning of floors, walls, floor drains, etc. as well as other grounds-keeping duties.

Assist in fueling vehicles or trailers as assigned (gas & diesel).

Assist in snow removal as assigned including shoveling and de-icing walkways, removing snow from vehicles, trailers, windows and other equipment or areas using the appropriate tools and safety procedures.

Ensure the successful delivery of customer service excellence to internal and external customers, by conducting tasks in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Consistently and clearly communicate with Shop Supervisor and other service staff in regards to progress, delays and/or incomplete work assignments.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Education
-
High School Diploma required. Experience and understanding of the cleaning and detailing of commercial vehicles would be an asset.

Valid Class 5, Class 1A preferred (or provincial equivalent) Driver’s License with clean driving record in order to safely operate units.

Experience of working in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision, critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills. Detail focused with ability to prioritize tasks and situations

Self-motivated with strong focus on delivering results under strict timeline to meet the business requirements.

Computer proficient in a variety of software applications (MS Office, proprietary software programs etc.).

This role will position the employee to advance into more senior roles within Shop Operations.
Experience
-
Strong understanding of the chemicals used and their application in cleaning, as well as hazardous material handling and disposal as it relates to this position.

Proficiency in the use of all necessary tools of the trade including but not limited to pressure washer, hand tools, and power tools.

Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment and commercial motor vehicles and trailers such as cars, vans, trucks, specialist vehicles (such as mobile construction machinery) and their applications.

Knowledge of transportation industry dynamics, safety standards, customer needs and pain points, including Ministry of Transportation (MTO) requirements as it relates to OHS, cleanliness and food safety.

Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work proficiently in a physically challenging and complex organizational environment.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, numerical accuracy and an ability to work under strict timelines.

Basic proficiency in a variety of software applications (MS Office, proprietary software programs, etc.).
