We are seeking a decisive and commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to play a central role in Bell's Privacy Team, advising on some of the most dynamic areas of law affecting Bell's business – including digital advertising, consent management and data governance, and responsible AI. You will provide strategic counsel to senior business leaders across Bell Canada and its affiliated companies, advancing Bell's interests in the privacy, data protection and AI space and helping shape the direction of Bell's privacy program. Working from our Toronto office and reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Legal & Regulatory, you will join a strong, collaborative team that values good judgement, creativity, and a practical approach to risk, supporting cross-functional initiatives across Bell's business units.
- Serving as a trusted advisor to key Bell business teams on privacy and responsible AI considerations, including advertising, media, and consumer-facing initiatives
- Leading key privacy initiatives and managing junior Privacy Team members, fostering their professional growth and overseeing their contributions
- Drafting and negotiating effective data protection and AI-related clauses in vendor, client, partner, and supplier agreements, including digital advertising agreements, data processing agreements, and data sharing arrangements
- Monitoring and interpreting legal and regulatory developments in privacy and data protection across Canada, North America, and Europe, and translating changes into actionable guidance and updates to Bell's Privacy Policy and broader privacy program
- Conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and advising on "privacy by design" for Bell's technology solutions, including mitigation strategies and compliance actions, and developing a PIA risk library to support consistent and efficient privacy risk identification across Bell's business units
- Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society.
- At least 6 years of relevant privacy and data protection experience gained in private practice and/or in a relevant in-house role, with a particular focus on Canadian privacy legislation (including PIPEDA and Law 25), digital advertising frameworks
- Demonstrated experience with privacy impact assessments, consent management and data governance frameworks, and AI risk management
- Strategic and detail-oriented thinker, with strong risk assessment, negotiation, and contract drafting abilities
- Exceptional communication skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels and simplify complex privacy and AI issues into practical guidance
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, anticipate business needs, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, commercial environment
- Bilingual (English and French)
- High level of proficiency with privacy management platforms (such as OneTrust)
- Experience with AI governance frameworks
Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
