The Organizations
The community of the Felician Sisters in Mississauga is part of an international congregation of Catholic sisters that originated in Poland and is part of “Our Lady of Hope Province” in North America. The main apostolates of the Canadian Felicians are education at all levels (daycare, elementary & secondary education), youth and parish ministry, assisting immigrants and helping the needy. Following the Felician charism, the Canadian sisters continue to bring God’s love and compassion to all, especially the marginalized.
Canadian Religious Stewardship (CRS), the Employer, is a not for profit and charitable organization established by Catholic Religious Institutes from across Canada. CRS is assisting the Felician Sisters congregation in Canada with their evolving needs.
The Position
As a CRS Registered Practical Nurse, reporting to the Director of Strategic Implementation (CRS) and working in collaboration with the CRS Community Coordinator, you will provide individual-centered health and social care to the Sisters in accordance with the provincial standards and the needs of the congregation.
This full-time, contract position requires a 40-hour work week across 5 days, Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 5:00pm. Flexibility is essential, as the role may involve adjusting to schedule changes based on organizational needs and the needs of the Sisters. While efforts will be made to provide advance notice, the employee must be open to accommodating these changes as part of the position's requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Work as a member of the CRS team in partnership with the Felician Sisters’ care team to develop, implement and evaluate individualized care plans, which align with identified priorities and desired outcomes utilizing a person-centered approach
- Provide direct, hands-on care according to the care assignment, while overseeing the care of all Sisters and addressing emerging needs as required. Accompany Sisters to medical appointments, medical specialists, including Emergency Department visits as required
- Ensure Sister’s clinical assessments, care plans, and documentation are accurate, complete and up to date. Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, making adjustments as needed and communicating changes to Sisters and staff as required
- Plan, coordinate, manage & evaluate the Sister's care plan working with the Local Minister, physicians, nursing & interdisciplinary team and contracted service providers
- Process treatment plan changes, ensure safekeeping of all drugs and narcotics, and administer medications in compliance in accordance with scope of practice and established procedures.
- Coordinate care assignments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of services to the Sisters
- Respond to and manage changes in Sister’s condition and or medical emergencies; provide emergency first aid and initiate CPR when appropriate
- Mentor, supervise and support PSWs
- Ensure appropriate action taken to address Sister’s concerns and addressed with the Director of Strategic Implementation (CRS) and Local Minister
- Assist in the coordination, implementation and monitoring of Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Emergency Management Planning,
- Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity
- Complete other duties as required by the Director of Strategic Implementation (CRS)
Skills, Abilities, Knowledge
- Exceptional planning, time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to manage multiple parallel activities
- Excellent judgment in serving the needs of clients including diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential issues
- Ability to provide leadership and support to PSWs as part of the collaborative care team.
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Advanced listening and facilitation skills
- Outstanding relationship building skills
- Demonstrated sound clinical knowledge
Requirements
- Certification of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience providing care to seniors in a retirement residence, long-term care, community-based, or hospital setting.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate within the Ontario health care system
- Successful completion of RPN medication administration course or equivalent
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate and First Aid certification
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Location
The candidate will work out of the Felician Sisters convent in Mississauga.
