The First Cook is the lead supervisor for all food preparation and presentations to meet the needs of various food outlets and banquets. The ideal candidate for this position is friendly, detail oriented, and able to handle the physical demands of the job.
A successful candidate will be required
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and services all food items for a la carte and/or buffet menus according to hotel recipes and standards
- Keeps overproduction to a minimum and reduces food waste, ensures proper rotation, labeling, and storing of food in order to reduce food cost expense
- Oversees the work of others during a specific shift, including delegating workflow, motivates and provides guidance to team members for the achievement of specific end results
- Maintains a sanitary kitchen by adhering to local sanitation, storage, and refrigeration requirements and codes; cleaning equipment
- Provides exceptional customer service to guests by clearly communicating and resolving challenges to guest satisfaction
- Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- Cooks trade qualification certificate with Interprovincial Red Seal or equivalent skill set
- Diploma/Certification in a Culinary discipline is an asset
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a hotel culinary environment
- Minimum of 3 years’ 1st/Line Cook experience
- Supervisory and catering conference experience is an asset
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and presentation as well as, health and safety regulations
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the job, including lifting heavy boxes and standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
