Position Summary:
The Health Records Technician (HRT) must be able to manage new patient referrals by obtaining all reports for physician triage (consults, pathologies, and investigations), transcribe orders in EPIC, assign referrals, book new consult appointments, and inform patients of appointments and tests required.
The HRT will be required to support physicians and nurses with duties such as, but not limited to: obtaining pathology and information necessary for patient care, sending and preparing packages for pathology consults and additional testing, rounds, sending and requesting pocket health images, preparing packages for referrals to be sent (eg pmh), scanning documents into patient charts, etc.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program.
- A minimum of two (2) years recent experience working in a health information management capacity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, namely Word, Excel, and Office.
- Experience working with Meditech required; knowledge of EPIC would be an asset.
- Previous experience in ambulatory care setting would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service skills (ability to remain respectful and professional, providing effective communication with both internal and external customers).
- Strong working knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
- Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance required.
