Job Summary
We are currently looking for an experienced line cook who is ready for the next steps in their career to join our chef team as a junior sous chef. This role is perfect for anyone looking to build hard skills and step into a junior leadership role in a busy kitchen. Under Executive chef and owner Michael Angeloni, The Berczy is currently experiencing a period of rapid growth, and we are looking for someone with a thorough knowledge of meat and seafood to join our team for the long term. The ideal candidate will be a team player first and foremost as Berczy culture is our number one priority. You should be ready to lead by example, working clean, organized and helping those around you. As always, a strong understanding of food safety and handling procedures is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all customers.
Duties
- Assist the Sous Chef and Chef de Cuisine with daily kitchen operations
- Lead and supervise line cooks and prep cooks during service
- Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work culture
- Ensure all dishes are prepared consistently to recipe and presentation standards
- Support ordering, inventory management, and receiving of products
- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, and rotation procedures
- Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Assist with scheduling and labour management
- Train, mentor, and support new and existing kitchen staff
- Help coordinate prep lists and daily production needs
- Monitor quality control and resolve issues during service
- Step into leadership roles during busy periods or in the absence of senior management
- Contribute to menu development, feature creation, and seasonal changes
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment
- Support communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams
- Help manage waste control and cost-conscious kitchen practices
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a high-volume restaurant kitchen
- Minimum 2–3 years of line cooking experience in a professional kitchen
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Valid Food Handler Certification preferred or required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with inventory management and ordering considered an asset
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations and service flow
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop team members
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure
- Culinary diploma or formal training considered an asset
- Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
- Passion for hospitality, food, and team leadership

Pay: $50,000.00-$58,000.00 per year
