Position Summary
The Hotel Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth and maximizing occupancy, banquet sales, and overall market share for the hotel. This role focuses on developing and maintaining strong relationships with corporate clients, groups, government accounts, sports teams, associations, travel partners, and local businesses while promoting all hotel services and amenities.
The Sales Manager will actively sell guest rooms, meeting and banquet space, restaurant offerings, and hotel services, while collaborating closely with Operations, Revenue Management, and Executive Leadership to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue and occupancy targets
- Actively prospect and secure new corporate, government, group, sports, and leisure accounts
- Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients and key accounts
- Conduct outside sales calls, networking activities, site inspections, and client presentations
- Identify opportunities to increase banquet, catering, and meeting room revenue
- Participate in trade shows, community events, and industry networking opportunities
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends
Revenue Generation
- Maximize revenue across:
- Guest rooms
- Banquet and meeting spaces
- Food & Beverage
- Collaborate with Director of Sales and Operations teams to optimize pricing and business mix
- Support forecasting and budgeting processes
- Ensure achievement of monthly and annual sales goals
Client Relationship Management
- Build long-term relationships through exceptional customer service
- Respond promptly to inquiries, proposals, and contract negotiations
- Coordinate group blocks, events, and client requirements with hotel departments
- Ensure a smooth handoff between Sales and Operations teams
- Address client concerns professionally and proactively
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate account, activity, and pipeline information in Sales Force and Opera
- Prepare sales reports, forecasts, and market analysis
- Track production and account performance
- Support contract preparation and negotiation processes
Qualifications
- Previous hotel sales experience preferred
- Experience in hospitality, corporate sales, or event sales considered an asset
- Strong understanding of hotel operations and revenue generation
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to build strong business relationships
- Self-motivated and results-oriented
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Sales Force and Opera
- Ability to work flexible hours when required for events and client meetings
Preferred Experience
- Experience selling:
- Group business
- Banquets and catering
- Corporate negotiated accounts
- Sports and leisure travel
- Knowledge of the Ottawa market considered an asset
- Experience working with branded hotels preferred
