Role Overview
As a Level 1 Educator at Core Compass, you are the heartbeat of our out‑of‑school‑care programs. You create safe, nurturing spaces where children aged 5–12 can explore, learn, and grow before school, after school, and during non‑school days. Working under the guidance of the Program Director and Supervisor, you champion child‑centred, play‑based learning—facilitating activities that spark curiosity, foster social‑emotional skills, and cultivate lifelong habits of health and well‑being.
You collaborate with families, colleagues, and community partners to ensure each child’s experience aligns with our guiding values of Communication, Opportunity, Resilience, and Empathy. Whether supervising outdoor adventures, supporting creative projects, or guiding reflective circles, you model positive behaviour ,uphold C.O.R.E & Alberta licensing standards. Above all, you help every child navigate toward their true North.

Position Summary
Level 1 Educators support day‑to‑day program delivery, ensuring children’s safety, engagement, and well‑being. They work under the direction of the Program Director and uphold Core Compass policies, procedures, and values at all times.
Reporting Line
Reports to Program Director and, when delegated, to any senior staff member (e.g. Director, Executive Director, Executive Leadership, Quality Assurance).

Qualifications
- Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certificate – Level 1
- Current Child‑Care First Aid & CPR
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector)

Key Responsibilities
All duties are carried out in alignment with Core Compass’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
1. Quality Care
- Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of children at all times.
- Use developmentally appropriate, strength‑based child‑guidance techniques.
- Foster positive, nurturing relationships with children and families.
2. Quality Programming
- Assist with planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive activities.
- Prepare materials and environments that promote exploration and learning.
- Support smooth transitions and maintain effective supervision practices.
- Collaborate with the program team to draft, review, and display weekly and monthly program plans that align with children’s interests, developmental goals, and Core Compass curriculum & values.
- Create and keep current supply/resource lists for all upcoming activities, ensuring requests are submitted to the Supervisor in time for purchase or preparation.
3. Quality Assurance
- Follow all Core Compass and regulatory policies, procedures, and licensing standards.
- Complete required documentation, checklists, and incident reports accurately and on time.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, meetings, and mandatory training.
4. Quality Relations
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Model Core Compass values and promote a positive team culture.
- Accept and act on direction provided by any senior staff member to meet program needs.
Performance Expectations
- Demonstrates Core Compass values in daily practice.
- Maintains effective supervision and ensures a safe environment.
- Implements feedback promptly from supervisors and senior staff.
- Shows initiative in supporting program improvements.
- Consistently prepares, updates, and follows weekly/monthly program plans, adjusting activities as required while maintaining educational intent.
- Ensures all planned activities are adequately resourced by organizing supply lists and confirming materials are ready prior to delivery.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Regular bending, standing, floor play, and lifting up to 20 kg.
- Outdoor supervision in all Alberta seasons; sustained focus in active, noisy spaces.

Pay: $16.50-$20.00 per hour
