The Arena Service Programs at Bill Copeland Sports Centre, Kensington Complex, and Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre are looking for individuals with strong customer service skills who are committed to working with children and families to deliver first-class skating opportunities for our community. Our staff team welcomes applications for Recreation Attendant 1 (Skate Shop & Skate Patrol) positions.
This role includes the following duties and responsibilities:
Performing a variety of duties related to arena programs and enforcing arena policies
Maintaining a fun and safe environment on the ice while patrolling/supervising public skating sessions
Providing customer service and building and maintaining relationships
Working in the skate shop to perform basic equipment maintenance/repairs and sharpen skates
Educating patrons on properly fitting equipment and maintaining/repairing helmets and skates
Performs other related work as required
The qualifications for this position include:
Up to high school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Strong skating experience. Previous experience with arena sports is preferred
Customer service experience and strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong ability to multitask and prioritize work
Previous experience with skate sharpening is an asset
High Five Training and First Aid with CPR-C Certification are assets
Other relevant information:
Selected candidates will be required to attend an on-ice assessment session
You must provide your own skates and a CSA-approved hockey or snow sports helmet
Applicants successful in the on-ice assessment will be considered for an interview
Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check.
Pay Rate: $23.13 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (The City of Burnaby is a part of the Living Wage program; the 2025 living wage is $27.85).
Location: Bill Copeland Sports Centre, Kensington Complex, Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts will be from Monday through Sunday between the hours of 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.
