Our people are METHOD’s greatest strength. Join a team that values collaboration, creativity, and ownership while building innovative products that serve customers across North America.
METHOD is a growing Design, Engineering & Manufacturing company based in South Surrey. Our 40-person team manufactures everything from one-off custom products for the entertainment industry; to high volume products for specific customers, to in-house products and systems, and sells them through a variety of distribution channels to multiple markets and customer segments. This is inclusive of one of our product lines, the EXO Building System, manufacturing innovative building envelope systems and structural insulated panels (wood and steel). Our construction team works on schools, municipal buildings, and other institutional facilities across Western Canada.
As we expand into a new manufacturing facility, we are investing in the people and systems that will shape the next phase of our growth.
If you are an energetic, creative, driven engineer and excited about building manufacturing capability from existing systems to ground up, you might be the perfect fit to join our team as our Manufacturing Engineer.
OVERVIEW
We are growing and need a Manufacturing Engineer who treats production as the system to be engineered. This is a hands on role: you'll spend your time watching how material moves through fabrication, where flow breaks down, and where the operation can be tightened, and own making it run better. You'll spec equipment, integrate robotic welding, shape work cells, and push design toward manufacturability alongside our design team, but the machinery is a means to an end.
The product you own is production flow: throughput, balance, KPI’s and efficiency across the whole operation. This isn't a maintenance, design-only, or capital-projects role, it's a high-ownership position spanning multiple fabrication processes including robotic welding, proprietary assembly, and material processing.
Reports to: Plant Manager / Operations Leadership.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are comfortable and energized on a manufacturing floor, not behind a desk modeling machines you'll never stand next to. You can hold a credible technical conversation with designers about a panel or a fixture, then turn around and translate that into how the floor should actually build it. You communicate with a high level of clarity and professionalism in writing and in person, because much of this role is coordinating across designers, leadership, vendors, and the shop. You understand machinery well enough to spec and challenge it, but your real talent is seeing the whole production system and knowing how to make it flow.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Production System Ownership (primary focus)
- Own the design and continuous improvement of production flow across the operation
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks; balance lines and work cells to takt
- Improve cycle times, throughput, and OEE; drive down scrap and rework
- Develop scalable SOPs and production standards as we ramp and grow
- Implement lean principles in a real, hands-on way on the floor
Equipment & Floor Integration
- Shape facility layout and material flow around how the work actually runs
- Spec, integrate, and commission fabrication equipment, robotic welding, cranes, material handling, finishing
- Coordinate contractors and vendors; troubleshoot startup challenges during ramp-up
Design-to-Floor Translation (NPI & Manufacturability)
- Partner with the product design team to make new designs genuinely manufacturable
- Align engineering design with fabrication realities on the floor
- Standardize processes for new products and SKUs; support prototype-to-production
- Help establish fabrication processes and standards for wood products, an emerging product line for the operation, bringing it from early production into a repeatable, scalable flow
Fabrication & Welding Engineering
- Develop and improve welding procedures, fixtures, jigs, and fabrication standards
- Ensure compliance with CSA/AWS or applicable welding codes
- Support root cause analysis on quality and fabrication issues
Performance & Capacity
- Model capacity and labor requirements; establish takt and KPIs
- Provide ROI justification for capital investment; support the automation roadmap
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline
- 5–10+ years in steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing, with substantial time spent on the production floor, not solely in an engineering office
- Demonstrated ownership of production flow, line balancing, or throughput improvement (please be specific)
- Strong understanding of plant layout and material flow
- Working knowledge of welding processes (MIG, FCAW, TIG, SMAW); experience supporting robotic welding an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable corresponding clearly across design, leadership, and shop floor
- Practical, hands-on engineering mindset
- Strong commercial awareness (cost, margin, throughput)
- P.Eng designation or eligibility considered a significant asset
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- The floor runs better because of how you engineered the flow, measurably faster, more balanced, less waste
- New designs hit the floor manufacturable, with design and fabrication aligned
- New facility launched cleanly, with startup inefficiencies caught and removed early
- A scalable production system is in place that grows without breaking
