The Opportunity
Thomson Power Systems, a division of Regal Rexnord, designs and manufactures critical power solutions for generator and utility power applications. We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our ATS Engineering team in Langley, BC.
This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in control panels, switchgear, power distribution, generator interface systems, or industrial automation who wants to work on real-world power continuity products. You will design and support automatic transfer switches (ATS), control panels, and related power system solutions used in critical infrastructure and industrial applications.
This position offers hands-on involvement across the full engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, electrical design, controls integration, production support, product improvement, and certification/testing support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and release electrical control panels and power systems for automatic transfer switches, generator interface applications, and related products.
- Develop and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, bills of materials, and production-ready design packages.
- Review and interpret customer specifications, single-line diagrams, datasheets, and application requirements.
- Develop, configure, and troubleshoot control logic for ATS and associated control systems, including PLC- or controller-based solutions.
- Support new product development from concept through prototype, verification, release, and launch support.
- Own engineering deliverables including requirements, design outputs, documentation, and engineering change control.
- Work closely with manufacturing, production, sales, and field service teams to resolve technical issues and improve product execution.
- Support testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis related to electrical and control system performance during development, production, and field support.
- Participate in product improvement initiatives focused on standardization, reliability, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
- Support UL/CSA certification activities, including technical documentation, design reviews, and test coordination.
- Contribute to system-level design decisions including interlocks, sequencing, control philosophy, and interface requirements.
- Perform other engineering-related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3–7 years of experience in electrical design related to one or more of the following:
- control panels
- switchgear
- motor control centers (MCCs)
- industrial controls
- low-voltage power distribution equipment
- automatic transfer switches or generator-related systems
- Strong experience developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Working knowledge of low-voltage power and control systems.
- Experience with PLC programming, controller configuration, or electrical controls troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; AutoCAD Electrical experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and service environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Eligible to work in Canada without company-sponsored authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), generator controls, backup power systems, or critical power applications.
- Familiarity with UL1008, UL891, CSA requirements, or related certification documentation.
- Experience supporting lab testing, product verification, or commissioning/troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP.
- Exposure to design for manufacturing, product standardization, or engineering change processes.
- Experience with Visual Factory is an asset.
Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
