Responsibilities:
Key tasks & responsibilities
1. Team Leadership, such as:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Agronomy and IPM team to build technical capability, engagement, and high performance.
- Establish team objectives, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with departmental and company goals.
- Drive a high-performance culture through effective performance management, talent development, accountability, and continuous improvement.
2. Agronomy Leadership & Customer Solutions, such as:
- Provide advanced agronomic recommendations and technical guidance to customers, account managers, and sales teams based on crop scouting, diagnostic testing, and data analysis to optimize crop performance, quality, and profitability
- Develop and oversee fertility, irrigation, crop protection, IPM, and seasonal crop management programs in collaboration with customers and account managers.
- Serve as Royal Brinkman Canada's lead technical resource, providing crop guidance, troubleshooting production challenges, and supporting sustainable growing practices.
- Deliver ongoing technical and after-sales support by addressing customer inquiries, resolving product performance issues, and collaborating with sales and suppliers on corrective actions.
3. Commercial Support & Business Development, such as:
- Partner with sales team to support customer retention and revenue growth by resolving crop performance issues, positioning products, and demonstrating the technical and economic value of Royal Brinkman solutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and industry partners while identifying market opportunities and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with sales and purchasing team on product planning, forecasting, and market intelligence.
- Provide technical, product, market, and regulatory expertise to support customer recommendations, business decisions, and strategic growth initiatives.
4. Research, Innovation & Product Development such as:
- Evaluate and support the introduction of new fertility, crop protection, biological, and specialty crop solutions.
- Lead product trials, field evaluations, and performance assessments to support product recommendations and commercialization efforts.
- Identify opportunities for new technologies, products, and crop management practices that deliver customer value and business growth.
- Collaborate with suppliers, marketing, research partners, and industry stakeholders to support product development and continuous improvement.
- Analyze technical data and trial results to support product, customer, and business decisions.
5. Financial Management & Organizational Leadership, such as:
- Manage the Agronomy Department budget and monitor departmental performance against established objectives and KPIs.
- Develop departmental objectives, operational plans, and performance measures aligned with company strategic priorities.
- Ensure agronomy programs and services support customer retention, profitable growth, and the expansion of agronomic solutions.
- Participate as a member of the management team by providing technical expertise, market insights, and operational input to business decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
6. Regulatory Affairs, Stewardship & Compliance, such as:
- Support regulatory compliance and product stewardship activities for agricultural inputs, ensuring adherence to applicable federal and provincial regulations.
- Act as a key contact with CFIA, PMRA, and other regulatory bodies while monitoring and communicating regulatory changes that may impact the business.
- Support new product introductions through regulatory registrations, labeling, compliance documentation, and claims validation.
- Coordinate regulatory audits, inspections, traceability activities, SOPs, and training programs while promoting safe product use and industry best practices.
- Ensure product documentation, labels, safety information, and regulatory data remain accurate, current, and compliant across customer-facing resources and platforms.
Educational Experience
- The minimum requirements are a Master's Degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Protection, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. is considered an asset.
Work Experience
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in agronomy, crop production, crop protection, and plant sciences, required and
- 3-5 years proven knowledge of greenhouse and controlled environment agriculture, plant nutrition, fertility management, biological controls, integrated pest management, and agricultural regulatory affairs is required.
- 3–5 years progressive leadership or management role, strongly recommended, and
- Proficiency in agronomic, greenhouse climate control, crop monitoring, data analysis, CRM, ERP (Sage 300), and Microsoft 365 (Excel & Power BI) applications used to support crop production, regulatory compliance, customer recommendations, and business decision-making is essential, and
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required. This is supplemented by product, market, commercial, and regulatory knowledge, along with experience in a customer-focused agricultural organization.
Language Requirement
- Proficiency in oral, and written English is mandatory; French is considered and asset.
Licenses & Certifications
- Must hold a valid G Driver's License and provide a clean driver's abstract.
- Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation is required.
- IPM certification and pesticide-related certifications are strongly recommended.
Physical Requirements:
The Agronomy Manager regularly uses a computer and standard office equipment while balancing office, customer-facing, and field responsibilities. The role requires frequent travel to customer facilities, company branches, research locations, and industry events. Regular presence in greenhouse, warehouse, and agricultural production environments is required. The position may involve standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting materials up to 25 lbs (11 kg). Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn where required and all safety procedures must be followed.
Additional Information:
- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday. 8 AM to 4:30 PM
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours during peak season as required.
- Travel is expected: must have reliable transportation
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary $80,000 - $140,000 per year, with annual bonus of up10% of base salary.
