POSITION SUMMARY
The Housekeeping Supervisor at the Tundra Inn reports directly to the General Manager, Hospitality, and is responsible for leading and managing the housekeeping team to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. This role involves scheduling, training, and supervising staff; conducting quality control inspections; and addressing guest and staff concerns promptly. The supervisor is also responsible for managing inventory, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and supporting overall hotel operations. In addition to supervisory duties, the role requires hands-on participation in cleaning and sanitization tasks to meet operational needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Supervisory Duties

Create and manage housekeeping staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for daily and deep-cleaning tasks.

Train new housekeeping staff on cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and Tundra Inn standards.

Provide guidance, support, and oversight to ensure attendants meet cleanliness and guest service standards.
-
Monitor daily employee performance, provide constructive feedback, handle issues confidentially, and promptly submit documentation to the General Manager, Hospitality.

Ensure compliance with employment legislation, including scheduling required breaks, arranging adequate coverage during breaks, and ensuring employees take their breaks as scheduled.

Model and enforce standards for employee uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), grooming, and ensure employees are fit for duty.

Address and resolve conflicts or issues among staff in a professional and timely manner.
Quality Control and Reporting
-
Conduct thorough inspections of guest rooms and common areas to ensure cleanliness meets hotel standards.

Maintain records of room statuses, cleaning schedules, and staff attendance; report issues to hotel management.

Identify and report maintenance or repair needs, such as broken furniture, malfunctioning lights, or plumbing issues.
Guest Interaction and Support
-
Respond to urgent cleaning needs or maintenance issues, including biohazard clean-up, and delegate tasks appropriately.

Handle guest complaints or concerns related to housekeeping and implement corrective actions.

Liaise with housekeeping staff to ensure all rooms are sanitized and fully stocked to accommodate guests’ needs; assist housekeeping as needed.

Coordinate with other departments (e.g., front desk or maintenance) to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction.

Assist front desk staff during busy times, as required.
Room Cleaning and Sanitization

Use cleaning equipment and products to clean and sanitize guest rooms and common areas.

Vacuum and mop guest room and common area floors.
-
Launder and replace bed linens and towels.
-
Dust surfaces, including shelves, headboards, and light fixtures.
-
Clean windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces in guest rooms and common areas.
Inventory Management
-
Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies, linens, and toiletries; reorder supplies as needed.

Restock guest room toiletries, supplies, and continental breakfast items.
-
Replenish housekeeping carts with necessary supplies, including cleaning products, linens, and toiletries.
Common Area Management
-
Regularly tidy and organize public spaces, such as the lobby, to ensure they are clean and presentable for guests.

Empty trash bins and replace liners in guest rooms and common areas.
Lost and Found Management
-
Properly handle items left behind by guests, following hotel procedures for lost and found.
Periodic Deep Cleaning
-
Perform deep cleaning duties as needed, including shampooing carpets, washing curtains, or steam-cleaning furniture.
Teamwork & Organizational Culture

Maintain open communication and cooperation with other staff to ensure a friendly, collaborative, and efficient working environment.

Ensure the work areas is clean, sanitary, well-organized, and hazard free.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
-
2+ years of experience in housekeeping, janitorial work, or a similar role in a hotel, motel, or similar environment is required.

Previous experience in a supervisory position is an asset but not required.
-
Previous experience using cleaning equipment and products is required.
-
Clean It Right certification required.
-
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages are an asset.

Demonstrated ability to use a computer, including Mac operating systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Internet, and server databases.

Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
-
Flexibility and resourcefulness to problem solve challenges that arise from working in remote, northern location.

Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience.

Must be able to work individually and as part of a team.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Job is in Churchill, Manitoba, a remote, northern location.

Hotel environment.

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to safely lift 23 kilograms (50 pounds).

The ability to travel to Churchill, Manitoba by air and/or train is required.

Closed-toe, slip-resistant, comfortable footwear is required.

Staff housing is available.

Overtime may be required during evenings, weekends, and on holidays.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
