The Server is a front-line ambassador of the Eighties Restaurant brand. This role is responsible for delivering a seamless, personalized, and high-energy dining experience to every guest, every shift. The ideal candidate is polished, proactive, and deeply committed to hospitality, not just taking orders, but anticipating needs, driving table sales, and contributing to a team culture of excellence. This position demands urgency, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for people. You will be held to measurable standards of performance and are expected to represent Eighties Restaurant with consistency and pride.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS & STANDARDS
At Eighties Restaurant, performance is not optional — it is the baseline. Every server is expected to meet the following non-negotiable standards on every shift:
- Arrive on time, in proper uniform, and prepared to work
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency at all times on the floor
- Know the menu inside and out, including daily specials.
- Actively upsell with confidence and knowledge, not as a script but as genuine hospitality
- Communicate clearly and professionally with guests, kitchen staff, and management
- Maintain cleanliness and restaurant organization during the different times of the day, adhering to the different cleaning duties.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and responsible service of alcohol standards Contribute to the achievement of individual and team performance targets across service, sales, and guest satisfaction
- Accept feedback and coaching with a growth mindset
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Follow our ‘7 Steps of Service’ ● Greet and welcome every guest warmly, promptly, and professionally upon seating ● Guide guests through the menu with confidence, offering informed recommendations and offering drinks ● Repeat orders back to guests to avoid misunderstandings or missed instructions ● Accurately record all food and beverage orders in the Clover POS system, checking them before sending to the kitchen. ● Return to the table within two minutes of food delivery to perform a quality check. Ensure every dish meets the guest's expectations and address any concerns immediately. ● Clear plates promptly once a guest has finished. A clean, uncluttered table signals attentiveness. We operate as a team, if you see it, do it. ● Present and process bills at the table every time. We are a full-service restaurant. Guests should never need to seek out payment; bring it to them professionally and promptly.
2. Guest Experience: Your role is to ensure every customer feels valued and eager to return. Proactively present and describe daily specials with enthusiasm and accuracy. Upsell appetizers, beverages, desserts, and add-ons naturally and with confidence. Contribute to table revenue targets through skilled suggestive selling
3. Operations & Station Management: Manage multiple tables simultaneously without compromising service quality or urgency. Maintain cleanliness and readiness of tables, utensils, condiments, service stations, and the restaurant as a whole. Complete all opening, running, and closing side duties to standard. Adhere to all cleaning duties
4. Team Collaboration & Professionalism Support fellow team members during high-volume periods with a team-first attitude. Communicate proactively with other servers and management throughout each shift. Uphold the Eighties Restaurant brand in appearance, language, and conduct at all times. SERVER QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Required Valid ‘Serving It Right’ certification — British Columbia Strong customer service skills with a genuine passion for hospitality. Ability to remain composed, organized, and professional in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Familiarity with Clover POS or similar point-of-sale systems.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
A successful Server at Eighties Restaurant is someone who takes ownership of their section, performance, and guest relationships. Within your first 90 days, you will be expected to: Demonstrate full menu knowledge and pass a menu assessment. Consistently meet table greeting and order delivery time standards. Build rapport with repeat guests and contribute to a positive guest return rate. Operate with zero accuracy errors on POS orders and payment processing. Receive positive feedback from management on professionalism, urgency, and teamwork. Performance reviews are conducted regularly. Servers who consistently exceed standards will have clear opportunities for advancement. Those who do not meet the standards of this role will be coached, and if performance does not improve, action will be taken.
