Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Pharmacy Assistant

Job Description
Doon Village Pharmacy is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team in a Pharmacy Assistant role.
This position is ideal for an RPN who is interested in transitioning into a community pharmacy environment and using their healthcare knowledge, patient-care experience, and attention to detail in a different clinical setting.
Please note: This is a Pharmacy Assistant position. The successful candidate will not be employed to provide independent nursing services or work in the capacity of an RPN.
Previous pharmacy experience is an asset but not required. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will work under the supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Responsibilities may include:
- Entering and processing prescriptions using Kroll pharmacy software
- Preparing prescriptions for pharmacist or pharmacy technician verification
- Counting, packaging, and labelling medications
- Assisting with compliance/blister packaging
- Receiving prescription requests from patients and prescribers
- Communicating with patients, physicians' offices, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers
- Processing prescription refills and managing refill requests
- Maintaining accurate patient and prescription information
- Managing pharmacy inventory, ordering, receiving, and putting away medications
- Processing third-party insurance claims and resolving basic adjudication issues
- Preparing prescriptions for pickup and delivery
- Assisting with pharmacy workflow and administrative duties
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with pharmacy policies and applicable privacy requirements
- Providing professional and compassionate customer service
Qualifications
- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) education/background
- Current or previous registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is an asset
- Strong knowledge of medications and medical terminology
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using computers and learning pharmacy software
- Ability to communicate professionally with patients and healthcare providers
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a small healthcare team
Pharmacy experience is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.
Experience with Kroll Pharmacy Management Software is an asset but not required.
