Volunteer - 3433 Coach

Role: As a 3433 Volunteer Coach, you will support athlete success by helping deliver safe, welcoming, and engaging coaching sessions for the Club Pass outdoor season from May to August, as well as regular 3433 Triathlon programs throughout the year. In this role, you will assist with group training sessions, athlete guidance, session setup, and community building while reinforcing 3433’s standards for service, safety, and program quality. You will help create a positive training environment that motivates athletes of varying abilities to progress toward their goals and remain connected to the 3433 endurance community.
Reports to: 3433 Sport Performance Manager
Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of Club Pass outdoor season programming from May to August and regular 3433 Triathlon programs by assisting with structured group training sessions.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for athletes of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.
- Assist lead coaches with session setup, attendance check-in, equipment organization, and participant flow before, during, and after sessions.
- Provide encouragement, basic technical feedback, and positive reinforcement within the scope of the program plan and under the guidance of the lead coach.
- Model excellent sportsmanship, professionalism, and customer service while representing 3433 and MNP Community & Sport Centre.
- Monitor participant safety and promptly escalate incidents, concerns, or injuries to the lead coach or appropriate supervisor.
- Support outdoor training logistics including route awareness, group management, and adherence to program safety guidelines.
- Help foster athlete retention and program success by building community, welcoming new participants, and contributing to a positive team culture.
- Attend required volunteer orientations, program briefings, and scheduled coaching shifts as assigned.
- Assist with special events, clinics, or race-related activities connected to Club Pass and 3433 Triathlon programming as needed.
- Perform other volunteer duties that support program quality and participant experience.
Qualifications
- A background or strong interest in triathlon, endurance sport, or community coaching is preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is considered a strong asset.
- Previous coaching, volunteer leadership, camp counselling, or group facilitation experience is an asset.
- NCCP training, sport-specific certification, or experience in swimming, cycling, or running would be considered an asset.
Candidates should demonstrate reliability, professionalism, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in helping athletes succeed in a team-based training environment.
Experience / Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly, encourage participants, and contribute to a positive group training environment.
- Comfort assisting with outdoor sessions in varying weather conditions during the May to August Club Pass season.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and willingness to follow program plans and coach direction.
- Ability to work collaboratively with lead coaches, staff, and fellow volunteers while maintaining a participant-first mindset.
- Physical ability to assist with coaching activities, equipment setup, light carrying, and prolonged standing or movement during sessions.
- Basic familiarity with triathlon training environments, safety practices, and participant support is preferred.
Commitment
- You are a dependable team player with strong communication skills and a passion for supporting athletes and building community.
- You can commit to scheduled coaching support shifts during the Club Pass outdoor season (May to August) and/or regular 3433 Triathlon programming as agreed upon in advance.
- You will follow all MNP Community & Sport Centre and 3433 policies, procedures, safety standards, and volunteer expectations.
- This position works primarily in a group setting and may include support at clinics, events, and community-based training sessions.
Volunteer Coaches are expected to represent MNP Community & Sport Centre and 3433 professionally and to maintain appropriate boundaries with participants. Any outside coaching, promotion, or solicitation involving program participants must be reviewed and approved in advance by program leadership.
A police information check may be required as a condition of volunteering, depending on program responsibilities and participant group.
