We are seeking energetic and inspiring Environmental Education Ambassadors to support our Outdoor Learning Program. This exciting position involves delivering our CPAWS Environmental Education Workshops in schools and daycares to students aged 3-12 in Winnipeg and surrounding areas. You will also be supporting outdoor learning experiences for students in parks and protected areas.
This position would be ideal for university or college students studying education, early childhood education, or environmental sciences who are seeking a full-time job during the spring and summer that may become part-time work during the academic year.
This flexible position of up to 37.5 hours per week begins in May 2026, supporting program delivery in schools, daycares, and day camps. This position extends until the last week in August 2026, with opportunities to work part-time throughout the following academic year. This position pays $18/hour plus reimbursement for mileage at the federal rate of $0.73 per km.
Training is provided before program launch. There will be weekly office shifts to prep and sort materials and plan program delivery.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this position is to enthusiastically and competently deliver place-based outdoor education workshops and support field trips for schools, daycares, summer camps and community groups.
Duties are to:
- Work with a partner to facilitate group games, crafts, scavenger hunts, and other activities outdoors for up to 30 children at a time for 45-60 minutes.
- Flexibly adapt programming and your approach to ensure children remain engaged.
- Discuss the program with educators and receive their feedback.
- Organize and clean educational materials.
- File activity reports.
- Take pictures to support the promotion of the program.
- Work outside for extended periods of time.
- Plan and prepare future lessons.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children is required.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships is required.
- Experience with program planning and delivery is an asset.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, organize work independently, fulfill assigned tasks and meet deadlines is required.
- At least one year of university or college is an asset.
- A background in education or environmental studies is an asset.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required; mileage is compensated at the government rate of $0.73 per km.
Physical & Other Demands:
- The ability to work flexible hours and travel to different locations in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
- The ability to work outside for up to seven hours in variable weather conditions.
- The ability to lift bins of educational materials that weigh up to 40 pounds and to pull them in a wagon across bumpy terrain.
- First aid certification is required: training will be paid for by the employer if needed.
Requirements:
- Provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check within the last month.
- Clear Child Abuse Registry Check within the last month.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
