Job Summary
Namdhar’s Punjabi Spice Restaurant is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and disciplined Kitchen Helper / Cook to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is serious about food service work, understands the importance of cleanliness, teamwork, punctuality, and respectful workplace conduct, and is willing to follow restaurant procedures consistently.
The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, cooking, kitchen cleaning, stocking, and maintaining food safety standards in a fast-paced vegetarian/vegan restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, and portioning food items.
- Prepare and cook menu items as assigned, following restaurant recipes, portion standards, and presentation requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workstations, equipment, storage areas, coolers, and utensils.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, trays, and kitchen tools as required.
- Support daily opening, closing, and shift cleaning duties.
- Ensure food is handled, stored, labeled, and rotated properly in accordance with food safety standards.
- Monitor ingredient levels and report low stock, spoilage, breakage, or waste promptly to management.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries properly.
- Follow instructions from supervisors, kitchen leads, and management professionally and without disruption to operations.
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure timely service and smooth kitchen operation.
- Use kitchen equipment safely and report any malfunction, hazard, or maintenance concern immediately.
- Help reduce food waste and maintain cost-conscious kitchen practices.
- Perform other kitchen-related duties as reasonably assigned by management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Previous kitchen helper, line cook, prep cook, or restaurant experience is an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and hygiene.
- Basic understanding of safe food handling and kitchen sanitation.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and kitchen items as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically active kitchen work.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow directions carefully and maintain consistency in tasks.
- Punctuality and regular attendance are essential.
- Respectful communication and professional behavior are required at all times.
- Experience with Indian, Punjabi, vegetarian, or vegan cuisine is an asset but not mandatory.
