Job Description
We are currently recruiting to fill an Intermediate Project Manager position in our Kanata, ON or St. John’s, NL office.
The Intermediate Project Manager oversees the engineering/design team for one or multiple projects. They are responsible for initial schedule development and budget estimates for multi discipline projects including Structural, Piping, Electrical, and outfitting. This is a full-time collaborative position within either office with the potential for visits to client/project sites. The project manager will work closely with team members, the client, and 3rd party professionals if required, to ensure the projects budget and schedule are maintained.
The ideal Intermediate Project Manager is a proactive and organized leader with strong communication and problem-solving skills, capable of managing multiple priorities, building effective stakeholder relationships, and delivering projects with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversight of Project Staff – Participate in the hiring process for project staff, including interviews as required. Conduct performance reviews, mentor junior and intermediate team members, and support the development and achievement of professional growth goals.
- Review Technical Documents – Review technical drawings and project documentation for completeness, quality, and alignment with project requirements while coordinating with discipline leads for technical approval.
- Develop Project Budgets and Schedules – Prepare project schedules, budgets, and cost estimates; assign tasks, establish priorities, and set project milestones and deadlines.
- Monitor and Report on Project Progress – Meet regularly with team leads to review project status, address issues, ensure deliverables meet project requirements, and adjust schedules, budgets, and resource plans as needed.
- Stakeholder and Client Management – Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders, providing regular project updates, managing expectations, and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Risk Management – Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues to minimize impacts on scope, schedule, budget, quality, and project delivery.
- Team Leadership and Engagement – Collaborate with the Technical Manager and team leads to promote team engagement, effective communication, collaboration, and balanced workload management in support of project success.
- Facilitate Project Meetings – Schedule and lead project meetings, providing status updates and reporting on project performance to senior management.
- Project Closeout – Prepare interim project delivery reports, where required, and complete project closeout documentation to formally record successful project completion.
- Policy and Procedure Development – Support senior management in the development and continuous improvement of company policies and procedures.
- Additional Responsibilities – Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on project needs and individual qualifications.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or related field. Equivalent experience considered.
- 4+ years of prior experience as a Project Manager or similar role
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and office management software packages
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills to maintain schedules and budgets and track the progress of multiple projects
- Familiarity with project management procedures
- Decision making skills and problem solving considered an asset
- Ability to work under pressure, set and meet deadlines for project completion; flexible, resourceful and efficient
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent Problem-solving skills as you are continually assessing project progression. The project manager will address issues that create risk to successful project completion. They will set corrective measures to set a project on the correct path to successful completion.
- Must be able to work within a team environment to support project completion
