Essex Weld Solutions Ltd is actively seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to work in our Essex, Ontario location. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the successful candidate will play a critical role in evaluating new business opportunities, preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, monitoring market trends and supporting strategic decision-making across multiple manufacturing facilities.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Identify and compute costs of labour, material, and time requirements for a given project by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Keep current with market trends that could affect estimates (exchange rates, steel indexes, etc.).
- Work closely with scheduling and analyze current workflow gaps and target specific projects in order to maintain proper capacity in all plants.
- Work closely with estimating manager as well as management from all departments to ensure all estimating needs are being met/exceeded.
- Resolve discrepancies within given requests by collecting, analyzing, and confirming all information.
- Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information as per customer requirements.
- Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing the information and trends.
- Perform contract reviews on all POs received, recognize differences from quotes to orders and alert all necessary personnel to such differences.
- Log and process quotes as per department/EData standards.
- Recognize cost extra’s, billable, and non-billable items within a given project and act on cost extra opportunities (FOC, SS0CC, GC52, etc).
- Job costing -- monitor current job costs, purchasing and labour related to estimates.
- Maintain technical knowledge by keeping on top of trends, functions on the shop floor etc.
QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- College diploma or University degree in a related discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Business or a related field) OR a combination of education, training and experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Estimating or Procurement related role
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and analyzing project cost estimates, bid submissions and post-bid evaluations.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Manufacturing industry experience is considered a strong asset

COMPENSATION: $70,000-$90,000/year
