Job Title: Night Warehouse Supervisor
Job Description
The Night Warehouse Supervisor oversees a team of 20–25 warehouse associates in a high-volume aftermarket automotive parts distribution center during the night shift. This role focuses on leading daily operations, including task delegation, training, coaching, and performance management, while working closely with warehouse leadership to plan and execute efficient, safe, and cost-effective warehouse activities. The supervisor sets team goals, addresses operational and employee-related issues, ensures health and safety standards are met, and actively contributes ideas to improve warehouse processes and overall performance.
Responsibilities

Supervise a team of 20–25 unionized warehouse employees, providing clear direction, delegating tasks, and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.

Train, coach, and mentor warehouse associates to build skills, reinforce best practices, and support continuous performance improvement.

Plan, communicate, and execute the nightly shift work plan, assigning work based on daily priorities, equipment availability, and space utilization.

Monitor warehouse performance and activities through key performance indicators (KPIs), with a primary focus on cost control and operational efficiency.

Collaborate daily with the Distribution Manager and Warehouse Manager to review shift targets, discuss issues, and provide detailed production and performance reports.

Maintain accurate inventory counts and conduct periodic spot-checks of inventory levels, supplies, and equipment to support inventory integrity.

Ensure all customer orders are shipped in a timely manner, investigating and resolving issues related to lost, delayed, or damaged shipments.

Recommend and implement improvements in work procedures to enhance productivity, safety, quality, and overall operational efficiency.

Plan warehouse layout and space requirements to prevent loss or damage, optimize storage capacity, and improve material flow and accessibility.

Enforce policies and procedures related to security and safety to maintain a safe working environment and compliance with health and safety standards.

Identify and address health and safety concerns, ensuring issues are properly documented, investigated, and resolved in accordance with established processes.

Set clear goals for the team and for the shift, track progress against targets, and take corrective action when performance falls short.

Apply, record, and document disciplinary actions fairly and consistently in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Work in cooperation with Human Resources on labour relations matters, including performance, conduct, and conflict resolution.

Use strong problem-solving skills and independent thinking to identify operational challenges and propose practical, data-driven solutions.

Schedule shifts and assign employees to departments to ensure adequate coverage and alignment with workload and operational needs.

Support and promote a culture of continuous improvement by actively contributing ideas to enhance warehouse operations and employee engagement.
Essential Skills

5–7 years of experience supervising teams of 15 or more employees in a warehouse or similar operational environment.

Proven experience working in a unionized environment, with a solid understanding of collective bargaining agreements and labour relations.

Demonstrated warehouse management and warehouse operations experience in a fast-paced distribution setting.

Strong supervisory skills, including coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution.

Experience scheduling shifts and assigning staff across departments to meet operational demands.

Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey expectations, provide feedback, and collaborate with leadership.

Proficient problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.

Ability to work effectively with KPIs and operational metrics to monitor performance and control costs.

Experience with inventory control practices, including cycle counts, spot-checks, and reconciliation.

Ability to enforce safety and security policies and promote a safe working environment.

Comfort working overnight hours on a consistent night shift schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Education experience in logistics, inventory management, supply chain, or a related field.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills for reporting, data analysis, and tracking operational metrics.

Experience working in an automotive parts warehouse or similar distribution environment.

Familiarity with supply chain processes and principles.

Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) for inventory tracking and order fulfillment.

Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes within a large-scale distribution operation.

Comfort working with high-bay racking systems and reach trucks, such as Raymond reach equipment.

Ability to contribute innovative ideas and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance warehouse operations.

Work Environment
The role is based in a 150,000-square-foot outbound warehouse that operates as a distribution hub for already boxed and prepared automotive parts destined for wholesalers and clients. Approximately 80 employees work per shift, and the facility uses 20-foot racks with Raymond reach equipment to manage high-density storage. The environment is similar to a 3PL operation, closely integrated with an inbound warehouse across the street where manufactured parts arrive and are prepared for outbound distribution. The Night Warehouse Supervisor works the night shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, in a busy, operationally focused setting that requires attention to safety, efficiency, and coordination across teams.
