Job Title: Farm Hand / Property Maintenance Worker
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and hands-on Farm Hand / Property Maintenance Worker to support the daily upkeep of a rural property. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is comfortable with physical labour, and is willing to take on a variety of tasks involving lawn care, flower and garden maintenance, animal care, fencing, property upkeep, and general repairs.
While the property does include cattle and other animals, this position is broader than traditional farm work. The successful candidate will assist with maintaining the grounds, supporting the care of animals, completing basic building and repair tasks, and helping ensure the property remains clean, safe, and well cared for.
Duties and Responsibilities
Grounds and Property Maintenance
Maintain lawns, gardens, flower beds, and landscaped areas
Cut grass, trim edges, weed gardens, water plants, and support seasonal planting
Assist with general outdoor cleanup and property organization
Maintain driveways, walkways, barns, sheds, and outdoor areas
Support seasonal tasks such as spring cleanup, fall cleanup, snow removal, and other weather-related duties as needed
Animal Care and Farm Support
Feed, water, and monitor cattle and other animals on the property
Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report concerns
Assist with moving, herding, and handling animals safely when required
Clean barns, pens, stalls, and other animal housing areas
Assist with basic farm tasks related to cattle care, fencing, and animal routines
Provide care for the family’s home and animals while they are away, as needed
Fencing, Repairs, and Physical Labour
Repair and maintain fencing, gates, water systems, and general farm infrastructure
Assist with small building projects, repairs, and maintenance tasks around the property
Operate basic tools, hand tools, and power tools safely
Assist with moving materials, supplies, equipment, feed, and other items around the property
Support general maintenance of barns, sheds, outdoor structures, and equipment
Equipment and General Support
Operate basic farm or property equipment such as lawn equipment, tractors, skid steers, or similar machinery, depending on experience
Tractor experience is considered a strong asset, but training may be provided for the right candidate
Clean, organize, and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas
Assist with routine maintenance and identify when equipment or structures require repair
Skills and Qualifications
Previous experience in farm work, landscaping, lawn care, property maintenance, or general labour is an asset
Experience operating a tractor or other farm/property equipment is a strong asset, but not required
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
Physically able to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, digging, mowing, and repetitive outdoor work
Comfortable around cattle and other animals
Basic knowledge of animal care, fencing, tools, or equipment is an asset
Mechanical aptitude or willingness to learn basic repairs and maintenance
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-kept property
Willingness to learn and take direction
Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and outdoor equipment
Work Environment
This is a physically active outdoor role on a rural property. The position involves a mix of lawn care, garden care, animal care, repairs, general maintenance, and hands-on labour. The ideal candidate is flexible, practical, and comfortable helping wherever needed to keep the property running smoothly.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
