Job Summary
Lt. General Romeo Dallaire founded the Child Soldiers Initiative in 2007 and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, provided a home to the Initiative in 2010. In 2020, the Initiative became the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, an international repository of expertise, research, and advocacy to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed violence. The Dallaire Institute is the co-developer of the 2017 Vancouver Principles on Peacekeeping and the Prevention of the Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers. Reporting to the Director, Latin America Centre of Excellence, the Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the coordination, implementation, and strategic alignment of the Centre’s portfolio of initiatives. This role ensures coherence across multiple projects, strengthens regional partnerships, and supports the operationalization of the Dallaire Institute’s strategic priorities in Latin America.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and implementation of multiple projects across the Latin America Centre of Excellence, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and integration across research, training, and advocacy initiatives.
- Manage project timelines, workplans, contracts, and cross-functional coordination to support effective and cohesive program delivery.
- Oversee financial planning and budget execution across diverse funding streams, including monitoring expenditures and supporting reporting and audit requirements.
- Integrate research, data collection, and monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) activities across projects, supporting stakeholder engagement and cross-project analysis.
- Coordinate regional training and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment in collaboration with internal teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders, while supporting knowledge mobilization, communications, and team leadership through supervision, collaboration, and operational coordination.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree with three to five years of experience in project management (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience in MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning) and research.
- Full fluency in Spanish and English.
- Experience managing budgets.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary teams.
Assets
- PMP or equivalent certification
- Experience and/or training in gender-based analysis+ (GBA+).
- Experience supporting projects and field-level staff remotely.
- Fluency in additional languages.
- Knowledge of asset-based community development and youth engagement.
- Experience with civil society or security institutions.
- Familiarity with Dalhousie University or similar.
