Summary
As an Application Engineer – SCADA/MES, you will be responsible for configuring, developing, deploying, and supporting industrial software applications that power manufacturing operations across FGF plants. This role sits at the intersection of IT and the plant floor, working with SCADA platforms, MES tools, historians, and data integrations to enable real-time visibility, alerting, operational decision-making and AI/ML. You will provide hands-on technical support to production, maintenance and QA teams while collaborating closely with engineers, electricians, IT and project leads.

Primary Responsibilities
-
Configure, develop, and maintain SCADA/HMI applications using Ignition (Inductive Automation).

Develop and maintain MES application features including alerting, reporting, and dashboard modules.

Build and maintain OPC-UA connections, tag structures, and data pipelines between plant systems and enterprise platforms.

Troubleshoot SCADA/MES issues and provide technical support.

Develop and maintain integrations between SCADA/MES platforms and enterprise systems (SAP, MongoDB, MSSQL).

Write and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects to support reporting and data workflows.

Participate in commissioning and go-live activities for new production lines and automation upgrades.

Provide technical training and documentation for plant-floor and engineering staff.

Work collaboratively with engineers, electricians, and project leads to ensure projects are completed on time.

Follow all GMP, Health & Safety, Food Safety & Environmental Standards.

Keep up to date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in industrial software and IIoT.
Required Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Strong understanding of industrial automation principles and their practical application in a manufacturing environment.

Proficiency with Ignition (Inductive Automation) — including Designer, Gateway administration, and Perspective/Vision modules.

Working knowledge of MQTT and OPC-UA protocols, tag browsing, and server/client configuration.

Experience with PLC platforms including Allen Bradley Studio5000, RSLogix500, FactoryTalk View, Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC, or equivalent.

Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) — query writing, stored procedures, and JDBC/ODBC connectivity.

Familiarity with MongoDB (schema design, querying, time-series collections) is an asset.

Scripting ability in Python and/or JavaScript for automation, data processing, and integration tasks.

Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to industrial environments (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewall rules, UDP).

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams spanning IT and Operations.

Good communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Ability to function with minimal supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Availability for on-call support after hours to support plant operations.
