JOURNEYMAN POWERLINE TECHNICIAN
Under the general direction of the Lines Supervisor, the Journeyperson Powerline Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and construction of overhead and underground distribution lines. This position is part of a team that constructs, repairs, and maintains overhead and underground electrical distribution lines, performing live-line work at voltages up to 115,000 V.
What this role does:

Install, maintain, or repair power lines that keep our customers' lights on.

Identify defective devices, voltage regulators, transformers, and switches.

Inspect and test power lines.

String power lines between poles, towers, and buildings.

Climb poles and transmission towers, and use truck-mounted buckets to reach equipment.

Operate power equipment during pole, tower, and line installation and repair.

Provide training to junior team members as required to maintain a safe, skilled crew.

Foster positive relationships among the team, the company, and customers.

Comply with and be familiar with all industry standards and work practices, operating rules and regulations, as well as all pertinent OHSA regulations.

Be able and willing to respond to work during unplanned events such as car accidents, storms, fires, and other emergencies.

Perform regular on-call duties as assigned.

Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
What makes you a successful candidate?

Live or be willing to relocate within a forty (40) kilometre driving distance of the Cornwall Electric service centre to better respond to emergencies and on-call duties.

Certified as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician through an industry-recognized training program or an equivalent program. Must be licensed to work in Ontario.

Must possess a valid Ontario Restricted AZ driver’s licence or be able to obtain one within nine (9) months to operate the vehicles in this position. Must maintain a clean driving record.

Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.

General knowledge of line materials, trade-related practices and standards, and operating rules and regulations.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and industry partners.

Must have an excellent safety record and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from the supervisor and peers.

Thorough understanding of applicable equipment, standards, and practices.

Ability to think critically and analytically, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

This role offers a progression in pay ranging from $33.14 to $49.56. The starting rate for new hires will be based on their qualifications and the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
