We are currently seeking a talented French Immersion Grade 6/7 to join the École Whitehorse Elementary School team from August 20, 2026- December 18, 2026.
Our goal is to support all learners in developing the essential skills, knowledge and personal qualities that they need to thrive in life.
The department plays a crucial role in delivering a wide range of services and supports that span from early learning to adult education and encompass K-12 schooling. École Whitehorse Elementary is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. École Whitehorse Elementary is a single-track French Immersion school, Grades K-7 with a student population of approximately 475. Our bilingual students enjoy learning in French everyday with specialty classes in music, outdoor education, Applied Art and Design, and Physical Education, all instructed in French. We have a vibrant sports culture with running clubs, intermural sports and outdoor education. Our music, movement and arts programming, delivered in French, strive to promote the arts. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in intermediate education;
- Recent teaching experience and/or pre-service practicum teaching experience at the intermediate grade level in a French Immersion program in the last 5 years;
-
Experience embedding formative assessment into teaching and learning;
-
Experience teaching and/or training in teaching using researched-based practices in literacy acquisition in French or English;
- Experience with project-based teaching would be an asset;
- Fully fluent in French and English;
-
Post-secondary training in teaching French Immersion and/or second language acquisition would be an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy and numeracy including the ability to apply assessment for, as and of student learning within an inclusive French Immersion context;

Effective classroom management, planning, and organization skills;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, other staff members, and consultants;

Willingness to deliver curriculum through outdoor experiential activities;

Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;

Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way including the promotion of student self-regulation and restorative approach;

Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.
