The Opportunity:
The Training Facilitator reports to Under One Sky’s Director of Operations and will promote, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate educational workshops and training opportunities offered externally to community partners and organizations using a two-eyed seeing approach. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating two existing educational programs, Indigenous Cultural Diversity Training (ICDT) and KAIROS Blanket Exercise (KBE), while also contributing to the development of new training opportunities.
Under One Sky’s Indigenous Cultural Diversity Training (ICDT) was constructed around three key themes: learning about Indigenous groups in New Brunswick, recognizing and respecting cultural differences, and enhancing cross-cultural awareness. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of Indigenous history, particularly the legacy of Indian residential schools, and of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. KAIROS Blanket Exercise (KBE) is an experiential learning workshop that explores the history of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate workshop administration, including registration, participant tracking, and scheduling.
- Respond to inquiries related to the workshops and provide information and guidance to participants, stakeholders, and community members.
- Facilitate workshops to stakeholders and community groups.
- Assist in planning and overseeing training events.
- Promote workshops through outreach and marketing.
- Develop promotional materials to support program outreach and engagement.
- Develop and update participant training materials, resources, and visual aids to support effective and accessible program delivery.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment by approaching sensitive topics, difficult questions, and challenging conversations with humility and professionalism.
- Participate in program debrief sessions and provide facilitation support when needed.
- Connect and maintain relationships with knowledge carriers and Elders.
- Create and/or support report or grant writing, as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- University degree in a related field such as Education or Indigenous Studies. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience in group facilitation, workshop delivery or similar public speaking initiatives is an asset.
- Program evaluation experience is a strong asset.
- Superior written and spoken communications and presentation skills.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently with a high level of creativity, resourcefulness, and initiative.
- High degree of technical skills including set up and operation of audio-visual equipment and proficiency in MS Office (Word and PowerPoint)
- Comprehensive knowledge of local Indigenous communities, culture, and history.
- A Criminal Background/Vulnerable Sector and Social Development check is required.
