Culinary Employment Skills InstructorPosition Purpose
The Culinary Employment Skills Instructor is responsible for building and operating a high-quality food service learning program and environment where individuals, supported by Jobs Unlimited, develop vocational, employment, and life skills through meaningful participation in food preparation, customer service, and daily kitchen operations.
The Instructor balances operational excellence with individualized and group teaching, ensuring clients gain the skills, confidence, and independence necessary to progress toward greater workplace participation and community inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities1. Culinary Operations
· Plan, prepare, and serve quality food products.
· Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
· Assist with inventory management, ordering, stock rotation, and waste reduction.
· Ensure a welcoming customer experience.
· Maintain an organized, efficient kitchen.
· Assist in designing culinary program growth.
2. Client Instruction & Skill Development
· Teach food preparation, customer service, workplace communication, and employability skills.
· Break tasks into achievable learning steps using structured teaching methods.
· Promote increasing independence through coaching and gradual reduction of support.
· Adapt instruction to individual learning styles and abilities.
· Celebrate progress while maintaining meaningful expectations.
3. Client Support & Program Development
· Contribute to Client Support Plans (CSPs).
· Document client progress and identify new learning opportunities.
· Participate in Support Network Meetings.
· Collaborate with families, supervisors, and community partners.
4. Leadership & Workplace Culture
· Model professionalism, respect, and inclusion.
· Foster a positive, client and communication-first workplace culture.
· Mentor clients while maintaining dignity and high expectations.
· Support continuous improvement within the Food Services program.
5. Safety & Compliance
· Follow all organizational policies and food safety regulations.
· Promote safe equipment use and safe work practices.
· Identify and manage operational risks.
Qualifications
· Proven leadership.
· Food service or culinary experience (5 to 10 years minimum).
· Food Safety certification.
· Experience teaching, mentoring, supervising, or coaching others is considered an asset.
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· Ability to balance operational productivity with individualized learning.
· Commitment to the mission and values of Jobs Unlimited.
