Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Primary Duties
- Provides comprehensive care to patients with predictable and unpredictable outcomes Is responsible for exercising judgement in accepting responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions
- Understands, upholds and promotes the ethical standards of the profession and the hospital’s code of conduct
- Practices in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards and hospital policies and procedures
- Rapid patient assessment and appropriate interventions as per medical directives/physician orders
- Initiates and completes all nursing interventions and collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary health care teams
- Completes documentation on assessments and ongoing treatment in a timely manner
- Initiates appropriate measures of infection control and reporting to Public Health as required
- Health education for patients, families and public as required
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- Current unencumbered general registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current certification in the following are required:
o CPR or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
o Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
o Coronary Care 1 or equivalent
o Triage Assessment course or willingness to obtain
- Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:
o Two years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
o Coronary Care 2
o Pediatric Advanced Live Support (PALS)
o Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
o Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
o Critical Care certificate
o Emergency Nursing certificate
Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to function within the Standards of Nursing Practice as outlined by the College of Nurses
- Demonstrated initiative for continuing education and willingness to participate in programs related to all aspects of nursing practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work at a high level of independent practice and leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relations as indicated by interpersonal relationships and high level of communication skills
