Sampling & Event Staff
Indie Alehouse
Part-Time · Toronto & GTA · Weekends + Select Weekdays
$18–$25/hr + sales bonus
Smart Serve required
The Role
This is a sales and service role. A fun one, an energetic one — but a role with targets and bonuses for hitting targets.
You’ll represent Birroteca by Indie Alehouse at retail locations, markets, events, and pop-ups across Toronto and the GTA. Your job is to get people excited about great beer and turn that excitement into a sale. You won’t be standing behind a table waiting for someone to wander over. You’ll be moving, engaging, reading the room, and making things happen.
The role has two parts that feed each other: you need to know the product well enough to talk about it with genuine enthusiasm, and you need the hustle and people skills to convert that conversation into a transaction. One without the other doesn’t cut it here.
Shifts are primarily Thursday through Sunday, with the best opportunities on weekends. Hours will vary by location and season — this isn’t a predictable 9-to-5, and that’s part of what makes it interesting.
What You’ll Do
- Represent Indie Alehouse beer at Eataly locations, specialty food retailers, restaurant patios, markets, and events across the city
- Sample beer to customers and convert those interactions into sales — per case, per can, or whatever the opportunity calls for
- Read each location’s energy and adapt — fast-paced mall traffic is a different game than a Sunday morning at a market or pop-up
- Work independently and stay sharp whether it’s slammed or slow
- Build familiarity with regulars at recurring locations and leverage those relationships over time
- Support events, pop-ups, and seasonal activations as the roster grows
- Feedback useful intel on what’s working, what’s not, and what customers are saying
Where You’ll Work
You won’t be tied to one spot. Locations include:
Eataly Yorkville
- Our flagship retail partner — high traffic, full support on-site, strong sales expectations
- The best conversion opportunity we have; we need our strongest people here
- TTC accessible
Eataly Eaton Centre
- Fast-paced mall environment with a different kind of energy
- Beer isn’t the centrepiece here — so you’ll need to create your own gravity and move around the floor to find your audience
- TTC accessible
Eataly Sherway Gardens
- Quieter pace, solid opportunity, free parking on-site
- A car is likely required to get here
Bar and Restaurant locations in the city
- Incredible patio spaces and motivated teams who want us there
- Community-feel locations with engaged customers
The Cheese Boutique
- One of our best opportunities — especially Sunday mornings and Thursday/Friday afternoons
- High engagement, lots of regulars who ask real questions and want real answers
- Great team to work alongside
- Not on transit — a car is required for this location
Pop-Ups & Seasonal Events
- Butcher shops, summer BBQ spots, markets, and other activations around the city
- This list keeps growing — if you’re good at this, there will always be more opportunity
What We’re Looking For
- Genuinely likes beer — not because it’s on the job description, but because you’d talk about it anyway
- Sales instinct and follow-through — you know how to open a conversation and close it
- Consistent energy whether it’s busy or dead — this role requires the same engagement at 11am with one customer as it does at 3pm with a crowd
- Comfortable working solo at different locations without someone managing every move
- Reliable, punctual, and takes the role seriously even though it’s part-time
- Curious and willing to learn — we’ll teach you what you don’t know about the beer
- A personality that works across contexts: upscale retail, casual market, neighbourhood shop
Requirements
- Valid Smart Serve certification (if you don’t have it yet, it’s a simple online course — we’d expect any serious candidate to have it or be willing to get it before starting)
- Availability Thursday through Sunday, with flexibility for other opportunities as they come up
- Access to a car is an asset — some of our best locations aren’t on transit, and candidates with a car will have access to more shifts
- Previous experience in sales, hospitality, retail, or brand representation is helpful — but the right attitude matters more than the right résumé
This Role Isn’t For Everyone
We’ve done this long enough to know a few things. If you’re looking for a way into serving or bartending, this isn’t a stepping stone to that — it’s its own thing, and we want people who want this specifically. If you’re used to product ambassador roles where the job is showing up, smiling, and running a script, that won’t fly here — we need people who know the product and care about it, not people who can “sell anything to anyone”.
If none of that sounds like you — great. Keep reading.
Compensation & Perks
- $19–$24/hr based on experience and performance
- Sales bonus on cases and cans moved — the better you do, the more you earn
- Beer. Obviously.
- Access to Indie Alehouse events and the broader community
- Flexible hours that work around other commitments
- A roster that’s growing — more locations and events means more opportunity for people who deliver
How to Apply
Send us a short note about yourself and why this role caught your attention. We’re not looking for a formal cover letter — just tell us who you are, what draws you to beer and people, and what you’d bring to this. Attach your résumé if you have one.
