The Role
As a Senior Commissioning Specialist, you will lead commissioning activities across a range of projects, acting as an owner’s advocate to ensure building systems perform as intended.
This role combines technical expertise, project management, and leadership, with responsibility for delivering high-quality commissioning services, supporting client relationships, and mentoring junior team members.
What You’ll Be Doing
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead commissioning activities on projects of varying size and complexity
- Act as the owner’s representative, ensuring systems meet design intent and operational requirements
- Manage project scope, schedules, and deliverables while maintaining quality and budget
- Oversee documentation, reporting, and quality control across projects
Technical Expertise & Field Work
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic support for building systems
- Conduct site reviews to verify installation and system performance
- Lead building audits and infrastructure assessments, providing detailed and actionable reports
- Review and interpret system design, installation, and operational performance
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Guide and support Commissioning Coordinators and Specialists
- Review and validate project data, reports, and deliverables
- Contribute to team development through mentorship and knowledge sharing
- Support workload planning and resource allocation across projects
Client Engagement & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Identify opportunities for additional services and support proposal development
- Stay informed on industry trends, including energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives
Tools, Processes & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and refine tools, templates, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency
- Create scalable systems for data collection and reporting
- Incorporate feedback to enhance internal workflows and service delivery
What You Bring
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation
- Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience
- Strong knowledge of HVAC&R systems and building operations
- Familiarity with building codes and standards (ASHRAE, LEED, etc.)
- LEED Accreditation is an asset
- Strong project management, reporting, and presentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Experience developing processes, tools, or data tracking systems is an asset
- Ability to work independently and lead within a team environment
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel within the GTA, across Ontario, and occasionally out of province
- Ability to attend construction sites and access mechanical/service areas
- Ability to obtain government security clearance (if required)
