TEACHER – SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS
Location: Tsay Keh Dene School, Tsay Keh Dene, British Columbia
Reports To: Principal
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Compensation: $60,302 – $90,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
Start Date: As soon as possible
Employment Term: Full-Time / Permanent
Position Summary
Tsay Keh Dene School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher with expertise and/or strong teaching experience in Science and Mathematics.
Located in the community of Tsay Keh Dene, British Columbia, the successful candidate will provide engaging, student-centred instruction while supporting the academic, social, cultural, and personal development of students.
The Teacher will work collaboratively with the Principal, Vice-Principal, education staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members to create a positive, respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in Science and Mathematics and the ability to adapt instruction to meet varying student abilities and learning needs.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Instruction
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality instruction in Science and Mathematics in accordance with the British Columbia curriculum.
- Develop engaging lesson plans and learning activities appropriate to student needs and abilities.
- Adapt teaching strategies and materials to support diverse learning styles and individual student needs.
- Incorporate hands-on, experiential, and practical learning opportunities wherever possible.
- Integrate First Nations perspectives, culture, knowledge, and ways of learning into classroom programming.
- Promote student-centred learning and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, curiosity, and academic confidence.
- Establish clear learning expectations and measurable outcomes.
- Assess, evaluate, and document student achievement and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
- Work collaboratively with Education Assistants and other school staff to support student learning.
Classroom and Student Support
- Create a safe, welcoming, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Establish clear and appropriate expectations for student behaviour and classroom participation.
- Support the academic, social, emotional, and cultural well-being of students.
- Identify students requiring additional academic support and work collaboratively with the school team to develop appropriate strategies.
- Build positive and respectful relationships with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and community members.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
School and Community Participation
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school activities, and community events as required.
- Contribute positively to the overall operation and development of Tsay Keh Dene School.
- Work collaboratively with school leadership and colleagues to support school goals and student achievement.
- Support opportunities that connect classroom learning with the community, culture, land, and practical life skills.
- Maintain respectful and culturally appropriate relationships within the Tsay Keh Dene community.
Assessment, Reporting and Administration
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, progress, assessment, and achievement.
- Prepare and provide student progress reports in accordance with school and provincial requirements.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress and educational needs.
- Participate in parent meetings and other school meetings as required.
- Follow Tsay Keh Dene Nation and Tsay Keh Dene School policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Perform other related teaching duties as reasonably required.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
- Bachelor of Education or other recognized teaching qualification.
- Strong academic background, specialization, or demonstrated teaching experience in Science and Mathematics.
- Valid British Columbia Teaching Certificate or eligibility for a Letter of Permission to teach in British Columbia.
- Qualified and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience working in a First Nations school, Indigenous community, rural school, or remote northern community is considered a strong asset.
- Experience adapting curriculum and instruction for students with different learning needs is an asset.

Working Conditions
- The successful candidate must be willing to live and work in the remote northern community of Tsay Keh Dene, British Columbia.
- Participation in school and community activities may occasionally require work outside regular school hours.
