Career Contacts is hiring on behalf of our client, a well-established non-profit organization dedicated to developing safe, inclusive, and supportive housing across the Lower Mainland. They are seeking a detail-oriented, adaptable, and motivated Payroll Specialist to join their team on a temporary basis in Vancouver.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, full-cycle payroll services. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll is processed efficiently while supporting various accounting and finance functions.
Start Date: Immediately
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary (minimum 3 months, with the possibility of extension)
Salary: $31.00 – $35.00 per year
Location: Downtown Vancouver, BC (On-Site)

Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process bi-weekly full-cycle payroll while meeting all payroll deadlines
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and maintain accurate payroll records
- Update and verify payroll information, including employee status changes, terminations, and manual payroll adjustments
- Prepare and process year-end T4 slips
- Work closely with the Human Resources team to prepare payroll reports for external stakeholders, including unions and benefits providers
- Liaise with Municipal Pension Plan administrators to ensure compliance and accurate reporting
- Track employee eligibility for benefits and pension plans, and coordinate enrollments and terminations
- Verify employee timesheets and ensure accuracy in accordance with work schedules
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROEs) and monitor interruptions in employee earnings
- Maintain compliance with payroll legislation, regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and payroll best practices
- Support the Accounting and Finance team with ad hoc duties, including accounts payable and rent reconciliations
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Payroll, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- National Payroll Institute PCP designation is required
- 3-5 years of progressive full-cycle payroll experience
- Experience using Payworks is strongly preferred
- Experience working in a unionized environment is strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of Collective Agreements
- Knowledge of the Municipal Pension Plan and employee group benefits
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
