Job Description:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Hi-Rail Boom Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hi-rail boom truck equipment in support of railway construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate must have previous railway experience and a strong understanding of railway safety procedures, operating environments, and industry standards. Travel and work throughout Western Canada will be required.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Safely operating hi-rail boom trucks on railway tracks and public roadways.
- Conducting daily inspections of vehicles, hi-rail gear, lifting equipment, and associated components.
- Loading, unloading, transporting, and placing railway materials, equipment, and track components.
- Performing lifting operations in accordance with manufacturer specifications, lift plans, and railway safety requirements.
- Working closely with track crews, foremen, supervisors, and railway representatives to complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
- Complying with all railway operating rules, company policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Completing required logbooks, inspection reports, timesheets, and operational documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintaining assigned equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Participating in job briefings, hazard assessments, and safety meetings.
- Assisting with railway construction and maintenance activities as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous railway construction or railway maintenance experience is mandatory.
- Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's Licence.
- Valid Boom Truck / Mobile Crane Operator certification.
- Experience operating hi-rail equipment is required.
- Knowledge of railway operating procedures and railway work environments.
- Current railway safety certifications (CROR, CN Contractor Orientation, CPKC Contractor Safety, eRailSafe, or equivalent) are considered strong assets.
- Strong understanding of load securement, rigging, and lifting practices.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours, weekends, and out-of-town shifts as required.
Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
