Job Overview
The Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for performing various accounting duties, including data entry, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable tasks, and supporting month-end close processes. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of Canadian bookkeeping practices and experience supporting accurate financial reporting.
Duties
Accounts Payable
- Entry of payable invoices, including matching of supporting documents;
- Preparing weekly payment cycle (cheques and electronic payments);
- Reconciling vendor statements and correcting discrepancies;
- Preparing month-end accruals for payables-related accounts;
Accounts Receivable
- Accurate and timely data entry, including issuing of sales invoices and posting of collections;
- Monitor collections on accounts by communicating with customers and sending invoice reminders;
- Collaborate with Customer Service and Sales dept. to resolve collection issues;
- Performing credit verification for new customers;
General
- Assisting with month-end close, performing reconciliations and preparing accruals;
- Preparation of weekly and monthly reporting and financial analyses;
- Preparing weekly payment cycle (cheques and electronic payments);
- Evaluation and identification of opportunities of streamline tasks to gain efficiency and improve effectiveness of work duties;
- Other accounting and administrative duties as assigned;
Experience
- Accounting or business certificate, diploma, or equivalent accounting experience
- Work with a continuous improvement mind-set, adopting Lean strategies to identify and implement process efficiencies and procedures
- Knowledge of MB Finance/CRA requirements and Canadian accounting standards is an asset
- Competency in an ERP environment and/or accounting software
- Well-organized and able to balance and prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency in performance of duties
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A self-starter, able to work independently and as part of a team
- Microsoft Office (specifically with Excel)
